Never thought I'd feel this way...

Weather forecast is for possible rain 5 of the next 6 days. Bring it on! My hoses are wearing out!

Everything is FINALLY in the ground (except an A.P. McC that may be a gift to someone). I am using a Golden Anniversary Nettle as my "needs water" guide.

Recent Hosta plantings: White Christmas, Fragrant Blue, Halcyon, Sultana, Little Sunspot, Julia, Dylan's Dilly, Fire Island, Blue Mouse Ears, Liberty, Gold Regal, Pathfinder, Touch of Class, Abiqua Blue Crinkles, Snowden, September Sun, Inniswood, Ventricosa and some unmarked thing that might grow into a Wolverine - looks somewhat like my existing ones but brighter colors.

Snowden is the only one looking a liitle frazzled (2nd flush looking better). Seeing some dessication on a Hyacinthina, September Sun, Guacamole, some older Fragrant Blues. Seeing scapes on Sultana, Blue Crinkles, Bigfoot.

Good work Becky and some very worthy plantings! I'm wondering is the one you are
describing as "Wolverine" might not be "Scooter" instead. I have both and I would
describe mine as of more substance and more vivid coloration than "Wolverine"! I didn't
think I'd care for it much but find I'm growing to like it more and more as it matures!

And, PLEASE--share the rain with us in Ohio--we need it, too!!! Lot's of promises of it
the past few weeks but only a tiny splash one day, so far!:o(

Could be Scooter, but I've never seen it at the nursery where I found this one. And it doesn't look like my Wolverines did when they were new purchases, or like the ones they had for sale when I found this. To boot, it was in a different kind of pot. Waiting to see how it shows next year.

GOTCHA!! I see the whole picture here! Thank you all for your imput! It is very understandable and I see things a lot clearer now. Choosing non-married couples makes sense for a lot of reasons. I am no longer miffed and will be very supportive. Actually, I am kind of glad it happened this way because it will allow my fiance a better understanding of the relationship I have with my own god daughter. He is such a wonderful partner and father, that any child he is able to have an intimate relationship with would be truly blessed anyway. No - I am not Catholic, but the rest of my family is. To Carla35 - Yes I do know what it means to be a God Parent. I am a God mother to my best friends' daughter. We baptized our son last July so I am very familiar with the Catholic religions practices regarding God parents and the sacrament of baptism. To Colleenoz - My fiance's neices and nephews not calling me aunt doesn't bother me. I used it as an example for you all to better understand my relationship with the children. It is up to their parents and them as to what they call me and if they ever decide to even call me "aunt". Also - we DO have tentative wedding dates set for either November 1st or 8th of 2008. We plan to marry in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Thank you all for your comments!

There are five plans posted so I'll just go in order No.1 - that's your current plan No.2 - would work - the only thing I would change is the range and sink. I would switch them so that the DW is located close to or at the end of the counter run, then the sink and then the range closer to, but not in, the corner. As far as having a pantry in the dining room, there are all sorts of ways to design it so that it looks like it belongs. The middle part can be a buffet with glass in the upper cabinets and a marble or wood counter. Go and look at actual DR buffet/hutches to get some design ideas. If your worried about the table being off-center wrt the window would it help to put the pantry/hutch against the stairway wall? I think it might be about a foot shorter but it might also feel like it's more in the kitchen. Your island could go a little longer toward the fridge. It looks like you drew 5' clearance but if fridge is french doors you could go down to 48" or 42" clearance. And depending on the size you need/want for your family room you could take your island closer that way as well. But that is your personal choice and depends on your priorities in spacing. No.3 - with the peninsula it just feels like things are getting a little closed off especially when you want to have a more open feeling. Not really enamoured with the feeling that it gives. No.4 - in a minute. No.5 - I do like this one, however my concern is your aisle clearance. Your island is only 2' wide giving you, as you have drawn it, only 36" aisles but counter overhangs are anywhere from 1" and up. So with this in mind, when you have two counters facing one another you are going to lose at least 2' giving you aisles of only 34" and with 5 people in there that could get really tight. I also see a real pinch-point between the lower-left corner of the island and the wall where the fridge is coupled with the door for the stairs in that space as well. Now back to NO. 4 I would pick the peninsula in this reiteration because it is roomier. So depending on budget, as you have drawn your plans I would pick either No.2 or No.4. Now there are layout gurus here who can probably come up with other suggestions as well.

Hi magpie, you could always fool around with some crafty stuff too. This is a $1 garage sale buy; it had an ugly picture print and a nasty brown frame. About eighteen years ago on a whim I poured a few shades of double pigment paint on Cling Wrap and zapped in an old microwave in the garage. After priming the picture I poured some metallic paints on and blended. I then glued on the Cling Wrap and stitched everything in with stitch craft paint. I wasn't actually expecting much out of the junk but I ended up liking it. The picture now lives in the game room; it took no time, money and little experience to make. aokat--I wanted to point out one thing to you. If you are not using it all the time, (you know, when the initial thrill wears off) and you want to empty the stale water in the line, just fill a couple of pitchers with the water and use it to water your flowers outside. I did that with mine every day to water the plants on the deck. (I hated using the outside hose because it got water all over the place). It was a great way to know that I had water that wasn't sitting in the pipes for a long time between uses. Also, one thing I was insanely crazy about was to get in the habit of NEVER walking away while it was running. Even if it was "just to grab the phone". Turn it off if you have to leave it. You never want to make a mistake with it. Enjoy!!! Bee

We'll talk. But you should know that I am known in the neighborhood (Springfield/Mixing Bowl) for never splitting a hosta :-) And I've only got about 60+ cultivars which doesn't come close to the real addicts here!

Janice - here are pics of Wolverine and "Whatever" taken today. "Whatever" has darkened its green and lightened its yellow since purchase.

Montanta Aureomarginata, but it's not upright enough! How old is it?

Brand new this spring. My young M-AM didn't look (or feel) this way last year. The substance is not as thick as say, Sagae or Liberty, but similar to that of Wolverine, and the veins are very pronounced to the touch (like Wolverine). And it doesn't look like the M-AMs the nursery was selling.

We are expecting some of that rain this coming weekend,also. To which I say Halleluyah!!. We had had only about an inch for the whole month of May! Those 2 pics you showed. The first one looks just like my Wolverine. The second may be montana Aureomarginata,but even if it isn't mA,it still looks like the montana family,with those pointy leaves. Phil

I'm betting, (if I were one to bet) that it will turn out to be MAM--the more I look at that bottom pic.!
If so, it should be spectacular!

I'll take it, if you're thinking you don't want a NOID! :O) I've been looking to have a large clump
of that one, for many years--3 to be exact! LOL I'm such a "newbie" at this!!

"So many choices, too little land, and way too little money" to acquire all of the ones I madly want!

Here's what the one I had last year (MAM)looked like! It didn't make it through
the bad Spring, this year and before that, the one I had, though a good size turned
out to have hvx!! Sigh!

It's the one in the barrel above Sugar & Cream! I hope yours turns out to be MAM because
they really are awesome when mature!!

Thanks for the pic, Janice. I wouldn't mind another MAM, don't get me wrong. I just once in a while would like the local nursery to make my life easy.

I have a feeling I'm really going to like this one, whatever it is.

And I do have a few that are bound to stay NOID. Not that there's anything wrong with that :-)
