My first hummingbird of the season

I thought she'd never come! Finally, at long last, a visitor, 3 days later than last year. It's odd that it's a female, since it's the males that usually arrive first.

I'm in the southern suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and have Bleeding Hearts and Columbines blooming. I also have some potted plants in flower that I bought at Home Depot and Lowe's--some Plectranthus, light pink and deep rose Foxgloves, and a Weigela "Red Prince."

I don't know if she's visiting my flowers, as I saw her at my home made feeder that is modelled after a cherry red Four O'Clock. I wonder if she's one of my birds from last year, but who can say? Now I'm eagerly awaiting the return of a male, hoping that mine weren't killed by that terrible cold snap that hit us in early April.

It's pure joy seeing her. PURE, RAPTUROUS JOY!!!! They've returned at last. Now I've got to make some more feeders, and dig up some more lawn for flowers!
