Speaking of rain , a short video after a downpour eased up..

It was raining hard, well after sunrise , so much so that it was still very dark out. the lightening didn't seem to be hitting anywhere near so I grabbed an umbrella and took a quick walk in the back yard.. Some of the video quality went away with the upload.. but I thought I would try to throw something new into the mix here on the board !

Wow! I'm glad you waited for it to SLACK UP? Your stone name tags stand out, although the panning was too quick for me to read. Maybe I could stop frame and read them.

Love the way you have the blues sheltered beneath those shrubs with overhanging boughs. Don't recognize what they are.
Appears to me the hosta are having a fine time with the storm.
Nothing looks beat down at all.

We were lucky enough to get just over 1/2" according to my rain gauge. I am off work today and will frantically plant those plants that need to be put in but that I haven't dared plant in this heat, and also hopefully find time to mulch the veggie beds. Like Dee, many of my flowers have been quite short-lived in this heat, and I haven't wanted to go out to spend time in the garden to enjoy them. Hopefully things will stay a bit more seasonal in the next couple of weeks. We really didn't seem to have much spring here - we went from temperatures in the 50's to ones in the 90's twice, but haven't had much of those 60's and 70's that are so nice.

Is this a mock appellate oral argument? If so, what I find most helpful is preparation and practice. I am relatively introverted and somewhat quiet, and definitely more of a writer than a talker. But I truly love oral arguments. There are three things that I find most effective in terms of preparation and practice: (1) having a very short 1 page outline of bullet points, with my key points in bold so that it's easy to take a quick look back at my outline after a line of questioning to see what point i want to make next; (2) taking time to think of potential questions and come up with answers and practice speaking them aloud; (3) practicing a short opening and short argument in the unlikely event that the judge/panel doesn't ask many questions. It's hard to say which of those 3 is most helpful if you don't have time to do all of them. #1 eases the nerves during the argument even if you don't use it. #2 helps tremendously in terms of practicing and refining your answers (when preparing for my first real oral argument i realized that my answers were initially way too long, and i needed to tri them before the real argument). And #3 is very helpful if the judges are not very active questioners (you will have something to say), and also helps you practice making your points out loud. Assuming this is a mock appellate oral argument, you should expect to spend more time answering questions than giving a monologue. In that sense, it is very different from a closing argument or opening statements in trial. If you go in expecting to make a speech, the questions are more likely to derail you. If you go in expecting to answer questions and try to squeeze in your own points in between questions, you will be more relaxed and ready to answer the questions. In my experience, most real life arguments involve more question answering (even if the judges are very polite about it) than speech-giving. Some courts of appeals put the transcripts of oral arguments online; I know the 9th circuit does. Listening to some of those may help. Good luck!

Cheeky is quite a nice word. It's almost always used by an adult to a child. If it's said in an angry tone, it means impertinent. For example, Stewed Eel purveyor above might well have said "You cheeky little bugger!" (Actually, in the forties, he wouldn't have said that to a girl, but he would to a boy, probably accompanied with a clip round the ear!) But if it's said in an affectionate tone (particularly to a small child) it means cute and endearing. Indulgent grandmother to small grandchild "Oh, aren't you a cheeky boy!" There is also the noun "cheek" - "The cheek of him, saying that to me !" Particularly rude or blatant "cheek" is usually "bare-faced cheek" !

Sarasota got 1.2 inches at the airport. I moved all my orchids out to get watered. Ran around this morning putting fertilizer around my fruit trees and flowers in the ground. Just made it in time before the rain started. Wow, did we need it! Jane

Btw, what is the ruffled edge on that we can barely see as you turned the corner after the white lattice. Love those ruffles!

The white lattice is the compost, and I am sorry to tell you cyn427 the ruffles are my RHUBARB !

Every time it rains hard the shrubs hang WAY DOWN over the Hosta, and then as they dry off they raise back up..

they did all seem healthy and happy this morning after the rain...

My cam is just a cheap one, and takes awful quality video, and youtube degrades it even more.. I keep trying to convince myself to buy a nice Digital camera and take some better footage...When I bought the new pc it refuses to work with my now OLD SCHOOL camera..

Thanks for sharing the video of your hostas! The hostas are loving all the rain we have been having. See you have asparagus too, love it!

We did have a few minutes of hail yesterday morning, possibly shortly after your rain. Didnt do much damage as it was short lived.

Thanks for the video. I often search You Tube for hosta gardens. I'm working on one right now, but am trying to edit it to add the names. I tried it where I spoke the plant name as I filmed and I didn't like the sound of my own voice:)

I loved the sound of the rain in your video. Only a true hosta lover would go out in the rain and video their hostas!

I knew the video would not be PERFECT, and it would be short, but there is something about rain and Hosta that go together. I am glad everyone enjoyed the quick distraction... I hoped it would be unique enough to seem entertaining...

I was afraid I might get a lecture on the lightning, I am not sure the camera picked up all of the flashs and rumbling.. I knew not to be out to long ;)

I used to go out in the rain when it was thundering and lightning, now I'm more wary. But, quite entertaining.
I love a rainy day only slightly less than I love a rainy night.
