Anyone, especially lawyers, have public speaking advice?

As of next Wednesday, I'll have made it through my first year of law school :) However, I first have to get through my mock oral argument against a classmate.

I'm a writer, not a talker. Although I'm okay one-on-one, I have very little public speaking experience. So, this is a tough one. It's only a tiny portion of our grade, but I still want to do as well as possible.

We had a mock practice with our Prof last night as he was intentionally hostile, saying he hoped to be harder on us that our judges. I forced myself to volunteer and was surprised to find out that the actual speaking wasn't that bad and I was completely unaware of my classmates behind me. But, I did get a bit deer-in-the-headlights as he tried to derail me with questions. The hardest part was transitioning from trying to answer a question to get back to where I wanted to be in my outline.

Anyone have any advice to share?

Sue
