B&B will put up new sprouts by underground runners. In the spring you will notice little green shoots popping up out a bit from older growth. Just dig them up and replant or dig up a root ball of older growth and replant. This plant is tough. In the spring, I can break off or cut off a new growing tip, pinch off the lower leaves and pop it into the bed in a different spot (or pot) and it will begin growing. Be certain a leaf node is underneath the soil surface. If it is sunny, shade for a few days and keep the soil moist. This is a VERY tough, robust plant. Jamie, My wife and I have had our 4 feeders out for a month now as well. Until about a week ago we thought we had no hummers. Last Saturday I went to change the feeders with some fresh nectar. Usually I do this around nine in the morning, but my son had Tball that day so I did my chores (funny it was my wife who wanted the feeders in the first place, but some how I ended up with the cleaning and changing. lol) around 6:00 am and while gathering the feeders for cleaning I was buzzed several times. Seems we have early morning visitors for the time being. Last year my wife and I setup our first feeder. We got lucky and within a week it was being visited non-stop. Enjoying their company we bought several more feeders. By September we had over two dozen hummers visiting from sun up to sun down. I know it's hard, but be patient and I know you will be rewarded.

jk - you are off to a good start. It seems almost unanimous that they like red-flowering bee balm (with Jacob Cline being one of the most popular favorites). If you don't already have a feeder, you could put one up near the plants and also consider putting up some red objects (ribbons, etc) around your place to get them curious and draw them to check out your plants. Once they find you, they seem to be good about returning. So far this morning, I have at least one female (or maybe 2 - not sure yet) who has come at least 11 times this morning that I have seen when actively observing the feeder.

It can be tough to see when the nectar is spoiled. It gets cloudy in that you can see swirls in the sugar water when you agitate it. Since it can be a little tough to tell, it's best to just take the 2-3 day rule as gospel and change regardless. I haven't tried the window feeder although it sounds neat. And the Perky Pet is a classic feeder, so you should have good luck with it eventually. I've switched to basin style feeders, which are a snap to clean and are ant and bee/wasp proof. The Hummzinger brand by Aspects is my choice. But you'll be fine with what you have, and are following all the best procedures to attract them as quickly as possible. You might also try some hanging baskets or containers full of hummer plants near the feeders. Salvia, pentas, nepeta, and monarda are all good choices to increase your chances. Red or pink varieties are even better. I have a month long vacation here in a couple of weeks, and I can't find anyone to clean my feeders. With sadness, I'll take them down when I leave and trust the hummers will forgive me. If it was only a week, I might hope for the best and leave them up, but even that would be a stretch. You can kill a hummingbird with spoiled nectar, especially if it's a feeder they have come to trust. So I'll hang a basket of mixed annuals in the feeders' places, and get the feeders back on track when I'm back in town. Not optimal, but they'll survive.
