my hostas so far this spring...(first post ever)

some of these are a few years old and some are very new, but all are very beautiful.

i am a rosarian first, but i am as addicted to hostas now as well- enjoy!

this is called striptease

an undulata

patriot

great expectations

an undulata along with an unknown one in right hand corner

another unknown about four years old

my crowning glory is my viking queen on my trellis, i have a gorgeous brother cadfael and golden celbration for the austins,about face, rainbow sorbet, rosemary harkness,neptune, honey bouquet,and a great deal of miniatures in containers- give me a week and all the pics of the first flush will be on the roses forum

Thanks Juliet! I've added a Thomas Affleck, Mrs. Dudley Cross, 2 SDLM's, Kron. Viktoria, and a Cl. Eden. I also have Heritage and Abe Darby. Those are either newly planted or not in flush yet. I cannot wait to get more OGR's, they are much more my "flavor" than HT's! I cannot wait to fill the whole back fence with more roses! And every other square inch my husband will allow for that matter :) natalie

You did fine--and I'm enjoying the pictures tremendously. I just spent the past week mulling over some new (for me) hosta--my semi-shady/high shade area got destroyed (along with most of my hosta) when they took down the giant sycamore some years ago, but now my river birch replacements are giving enough shade that I can once again consider growing hosta. You have shown pictures of a number of the ones I have been closely considering. So helpful to me--as well as being such lovely shots of them. Thanks Christine! When they were babies in the second pic they were in an 10 inch pot. That is the pot i put the plant in before the first frost in november. The main plant died over the winter and it had offsets which is what you see now. they are now in a 20inch square container. I had they in the ground last year when i got them in july 2014. They did not get much bigger than they are now. This year i will keep them in the pot and hope i can get them to over 6 ft sometime during the summer.

Not great lighting for pics, but a couple spruces are doing their thing: Picea pungens 'Procumbens' It used to be very stiffly horizontal, but the left side started upturning last year or so. Usually even more intense blue. Picea abies 'Pendula' Picea glauca 'Rainbow's End' Picea pungens 'Thume'

i like that particular hosta as well mary- i wish i was more diligent about keeping those plant markers, but before i really got into hosta i thought they were pretty much all the same, so why keep the namecard-right? lol

What beautiful hosta's.They all look nice and healthy.
In your picture # 10,what is the leaf on the left,i used to have something like that,it looked really pretty growing with hosta,do you have the name?

i couldn't tell ya- all i know is that it has been in that planter for a couple years now and is unusual , and getting larger

Welcome to the Hosta forum Joe, you'll find plenty of enablers 'round here...

The solid green to the left in DSCN0019-1.jpg looks like Undulata Erromena, the all-green form. Undulatas are quite unstable and be prepared for them to change over the years.

In DSCN0020-1.jpg to the right looks like 'So Sweet', check the flowers for fragrance when it blooms.

DSCN0003-1.jpg sure reminds me of Undulata Albomarginata.

And finally for DSCN0012-1.jpg check out Blue Cadet on the HL.
