My Hoya Fungii Finally Came !!!! Please take a look. (PICS!!!!!!)

Hello. i finnaly got my first hoya from gardino nursurey. it is a hoya fungii. i am so excited that i can hardly contain myself. it took me a long time to find a good place to get a quality plant from. and i am not dissapointed. it has a few growing tips and lots of roots. here are some photos and can you show me what a developing peduncle looks like one thats just begining? and one more question where do peduncles come from, from between the leaves or on the stems. anyways here are those pics.

Hi Cattleya17, Nice looking plants with lots of new growth. What size plant were these? 4"pot or 6"pot? I was thinking about getting some from that company. Lot of hoyas peduncle starts from stem.

I put the goldfish down, I got him into a 10 gallon tank so I could really get a good look at him. This formerly white/pink fish was brownish/orange all over. You could see every capillary around his scales. His eyes were totally covered over with who-knows-what. I just felt so bad for him, I though the best thing for him was to let him go. I don't like doing that at all! I've been testing my water every day or two. With the drop version of the tests, the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are all at zero. The pH is 8.2. How long do you think it might be before the fish start to actually feel better? They are still hiding out in the shady part of the tank. I put some plastic over the end of a large diameter white tube so I could get a peek at them. Of the ones I can see (dang green water!), it looks like their fins are not clamped down but they are still just hanging out in the corner. I feel like we have turned a corner, water quality-wise. I'm just wondering how long it will be before my fish are happy again. Go figure, but standing outside worrying about my pond and fish hasn't made it all better yet. :)

Thanks again, especially for the candytuft ID, they are the stars of the spiral right now but they're starting to go to seed. I have a fountain in the front yard, and although I agree it would look great I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle in that particular spot. Birds love fountains, consequently they need to be cleaned frequently and it always involves splashing a lot of water on the ground and walking around the fountain a bit. Maybe I could get a birdbath and hook it to the irrigation system, but a statue would be easier and require less maintenance. I think I'm a one fountain person, a second is not something I relish taking care of but I wouldn't dream of getting rid of the one I have. Most recently a bench has been added to the garden, I realized that the place where the path brushes the raised bed is the coolest and most comfortable spot to hang out so I mentioned it to the DH and next thing I knew we had a new bench. I love it, it's perfect for sitting and enjoying my new area.

Xuan, I have both plants - globulosa (bottom right), and villosa (top left). I was told that the villosa is also known as longepedunculata. My globulosa came from a friend in Sweden, and the villosa is a David Liddle cutting - IML 1663. I think that the differences in both plants are rather apparent, but it helps to see them together. They grow right next to each other in a very bright, east facing window. As the villosa matures, it does loose some of the rippling on the leaves, but they are much longer than those of globulosa. I'd definitely agree about glass giving your space a more modern direction. I'm thinking black glass would also be very 'hard' visually -- another surface with a 'strong, masculine' bent. Is that something you want? What direction DO you want to go in? (If it were me, I'd tip just a bit back to the 'softer and more feminine side' with a ceramic tile with a bit of a 'cushion' shape (handmade) and a color that's rich but not too dark. I'm thinking a simple 4x4 on a diagonal layout with a frame treatment over the range... While I love the metal decos, I think they may add too much 'clutter' to an element that needs to be more 'background'. You've also got a lot of outlets in your splash -- so there will already be things there -- things you probably don't want to draw the eye to...

I like this hoya, it seems to acclimate quickly and just keeps growing and growing....I repotted mine into a 6" hanging basket at the end of last summer, and I think that maybe by next spring it will need a bigger one. Are you going to put it in basket? This one seems to grow best that way, the leaves get pretty big, but it drapes beautifully. It is probably one of my prettiest plants, as far as the foliage is concerned.

Looks like a nice healthy Hoya - congrats! Can you post a link to their website?

Peduncles form off the stem but at the leaf joints. Here's a new one that formed on my Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash'...

I found their website and posted a link below to one of the Hoya pages. Hey Cat, which size is that you ordered? I see they have $8, $15 and $20 sizes in fungii. I'm guessing that's the $20 size?? I think I may have to place an order with them - looks like they have a nice selection.

i got the 4 inch pot(bigger)for 15 dollars from them and it just looks so good. they packaged it so well. should i start fertilizing it do you think. and will shultz 2-7-7 cactus plus work? the bottle says for all cacti & other succulents. so okay thanks for the response guys

I wouldn't use a cactus fertilizer for hoyas.

hmmmm, why would you use a cactus fertilizer? I am not sure I understand the reasoning behind this. I would think hoyas, and most other plants would benefit from a higher nitrogen number.....I thought there was a reason it was lower for cacti and succulents....but I cant remember what it is. I would liketo hear what others say about this fertilizer, I have it to, and if it will benefit my hoyas more than say a regular 10-10-10, or a bloom booster 10-54-10, I would love to know!

No, I'd use either a multi-purpose fertilizer for tropicals or a bloom booster. Or, better yet, get some Eleanor's VF-11. I use it year round, then I use a bloom booster about twice during the summer months.
