Tammy, Wow, every two weeks?! The ones I have in the house (where we keep it cool, cool, COOL) get watered once a week pretty much year round. I don't like to let them get too dry... The ones in the GH get water every few days as they're out in the heat. It's hard to keep up with the watering in the GH this time of year as I have lots of other succulents to stay on top of also. That little serpens, though, is a bugger. I've found it's a tough one to water right. The fine line between too much water, which causes the leaves to yellow and drop, and too little water, which makes them dry up, is like walking a tight-rope! It's been doing pretty good lately - I put it in the sunroom late this winter because I read they don't like it real hot, and I think between the cooler temp and the ceiling fan that blows constantly, I've got the right conditions now. I too am a Hoya-loving Brooklynite --- can I maybe pls. join you both in a local Hoya cuttings swap sometime? Pelican, I saw yr, Member Page & that you're looking for a Rope Hoya (H. compacta)? If still the case, you might try Plant King, downtown Brooklyn, on Laurence btwn Fulton & Willoughby Sts. (local Lawrence St. stop on the R train). They often have H compacta, several tri-color variegates (Krimson Prince & Krimson Queen) & once in a while some H. Polyneura (which I keep killing). If you go there, pls. tell them Karen, the Hoya Nut sent you.

Sometimes I've had plants that only bloomed once during their first blooming year, but then the following year they bloomed throughout their season. I think it's premature to jump to the conclusion that you are failing to reproduce the right conditions. It might just be that the plant is mature enough to start, but not mature enough to go full throttle. It can be a bit patchy in the beginning. I would just keep things as they are for a bit. Then, if next year you don't get flowers, move it to higher light. Fertilizer is important, but compared to sunlight it is a much weaker variable. Especially as regards cumingiana, which grows so etiolated in weak light. Not all Hoyas show their preference for VERY strong light as dramatically as this species! I used to keep mine in my harsh western balcony doors, a spot most of my Hoyas reject, and it was so-o-o-o happy!! Blashernaezii too! I should move them back. Haha - 3-4 weeks DOES seem long when you first start getting Hoya buds. I remember having this feeling, too. Now I guess I have adjusted because they are always opening before I expect them to.
