I think the corner has been turned!

Finally, after a Winter that seemed to have no end, the long range weather forecast shows a week with no below freezing temperatures. I took the opportunity to unearth my potted hostas, as I over-winter them by burying them in my garden. All 221 made it through with flying colors! Now I still have three weeks before our normal last frost date, but I have a small greenhouse that I put up just in case they need the extra protection from a late Spring freeze. Now its time to soak these tire old muscles in a hot tub.

Good to hear that, Gary! We also have no freezing temps forecasted in the 10-day. Had a nice, mild rain for a couple hours this afternoon, it was wonderful. Let's keep our fingers crossed for us, and everyone else.

Congratulations on your perfect winter survival rate. Our last average frost date was March 15, but we've had enough cold a couple of times to do some damage to the early leaves and tender pips....or so it seems. However, they are going full steam ahead with no turning back.

Tell me how you inter your 221 (you might add a few this year, right?) to such good results. Maybe I could do something similar designed for a milder winter zone.

Rebecca, We have the same situation.Our Blues nested late and laid 4 eggs.3days later a House Wren destroyed all the eggs.They moved to another nest box and nested there and laid 4 more eggs.We kept the Wrens busy in the back yard.The babies are now 6 days old.It is going very slow. michelle

shee- no I have never used Paypal. I've never shopped on Ebay either. I have seen some great things that friends and family have purchased on Ebay. Does Ebay accept any form of payment other than Paypal? I personally like a more straight forward shopping experience. From what I've heard about Ebay, sounds as though there is bidding process? Is that the case with everything on Ebay or only certain items? I love to negotiate when I have my eye on something in an antique shop, estate sale, etc. While I enjoy the negotiating IRL, I don't know that I would do very well doing so online. I experienced identity theft at holiday time a couple of years ago. That was a total nightmare for me as I felt violated that someone had access to my social security number and other personal information. I use my credit card for online purchases. The bank that issued my card is extremely vigilent and actually stopped the use of my credit card on the first purchase attempt by whomever it was that hijacked my info. I never use my debit card for online purchases. Perhaps it is not as big of a risk as I envision, but I don't want to go through the whole identity theft horror again.

I tried the Prep H and it didn't work at all for me. I did some internet research - and there are lots of opinions the Prep H. Some say if you get the kind that has been manufactured in Canada it works, but what is available in the US has been reformulated and doesn't work. I would have to agree with that. I use a cold wash cloth on my eyes to help reduce the puffy - but I haven't found anything that really covers the dark circles well. Some of the better concealers work pretty good. I was watching an infomercial (now you know why I have dark puffy circles - I don't sleep well, LOL) and they had a scar makeup that looked like it did a great job of concealing the dark circles. But I can't remember the name of the product. I must have fallen asleep somewhere along the line :)

I had this happen on my neck and chest just a few months ago. I was quite distressed because I have never had breakouts on chest, ever. I went to a dermatologist who prescribed a potassium-sparing diuretic (water pill). Can't recall the name right now but when I get home, I can get it if you want. The doctor said often times breakouts below the jaw line are hormone related, more so than on the face. The water pills will help regulate my hormones. It worked in no time, the breakouts stopped altogether and I've even lost some weight I think due to the water pills. Jodi-

Moc, I have a section in my vegetable garden that has close to two feet of sandy loam that I just trench out in the Fall and bury my pots about an inch below the surface. After a good hard freeze, I put almost a foot of leaves on top of them and ignore them until about mid-April. Of course, the pots are filthy when I remove them, but I have three weeks or so to get them cleaned up to spread around the in ground hostas. I think the key is to avoid the freeze - thaw cycle as much as possible. (So far, I did loose one in ground hosta - a Lucy Vitol, but it was on a decline and I took a start of it and that's coming up in its pot just fine.)

I have only 6 or so potted leftover hostas, no pips yet, they were tipped over in the shade. I watch temperatures for my indoor seedlings. Yes, it definitely gets warmer. I have a low of 34 in the forecast for the next week. But for me it is also important that high day time temperatures will stay in the 60s, today 71. So perhaps in another 10 days I will bring my now rather large seedlings outside, repot them, place them in shade, but bring them into the garage anytime it gets below 50 - that should toughen them up. I have no little greenhouse though. Bernd

Bernd and Jo, I talked with my brother-in-law this past Sunday, and he promised he would walk me through the process of taking and posting pictures, so maybe I'll be able to show some of my "babies" soon.
