Hi, I am hoping to go, but I may be out of town. But I've been before and it really is a great sale.:o)

How's the vines doing? I lost one from you, some workmen knocked it out of the pot. :o(

Katkin: Right after the swap I came down with a really bad case of bronchitis. I'm just now back to work full time. My DH planted my swap plants for me. I'm working the sale on Sunday for my master gardener hours. The Guild at Mounts has the best prices for plants. Hope to see you.

Mounts Botanical Gardens Spring Plant Sale

For those of you within driving distance of West Palm Beach, Mounts Botanical Gardens are having their Spring Plant Sale Saturday, 4/15/11 and Sunday, 4/16/11. I wasn't able to attend the fall event, but their sales are usually pretty good. I did notice the last few times I attended that a couple of their regular vendors had dropped out......one of them my favorite Bromeliad vendor.......but there was still a good group there. I also noticed that the price has been raised from $5.00 to $10.00. Hopefully I will be able to attend this year......have another obligation sort of halfway pending for Saturday but hopefully I will see you there.

I just propagated about 80 blue porterweeds for the Gardens. We use Dip N Gro and rootcubes in conjunction with a mist system and they root like crazy. Obviously not everyone has that setup so I'd advise folks to use Rootone. Make sure to use a two node cutting: the lower node you strip the leaves off while keeping the leaves one the upper node. Try to mist them to keep them from drying out. They should root pretty quickly Regarding their annual vs perennial status: We have 5 big 5 gallon porterweeds we take cuttings off of. We root those cuttings to make plants that will eventually go out into the garden. From that lot of plants, we pull 5 and grow them up to be the next years stock plants. Repeat.

Are you referring to the Mt. Dora Plant Festival this week-end? I plan on going to that. I am buying a purple beautyberry and snow squarestem plant from Jim at Biosphere. I have never been. Who has the best quality and price on plants? If it is the one you mentioned in your message, I goggled the name but nothing came up. I didn't realize there is a fee to get in. I don't mean to be stupid, but what membership are you referring to? Thanks

"Mounts" refers to Mounts Botanical Gardens in Palm Beach County. I've attached the link if you are interested in learning about Mounts.
