First order has arrived!

I just got my first order in the mail from Naylor Creek. Hosta planting season is officially on! I was sort of bummed that I did not get a freebie (I guess Hallsons has spoiled me). But my disappointment quickly disappeared when I realized that all of the plants had multiple eyes. Irish Luck has 4 fat ones and Cold Heart has 7 , though only 3 are fatties. Yeah!!

How exciting! It's going to be a while before we get to do any hosta planting here in zone 5 yet, but we can at least enjoy your fun vicariously. :)

LOL...Cindy, I think it's a smell that only a gardener could love...very earthy. I also like the smell of well rotted compost...or freshly tilled earth...but I don't imagine they'll be using it for perfume anytime soon. :-) Julia...congrats and enjoy. Marcia, yes she does like flowers! Last year I taught her not to pull on the flowers, so she says "pat pat" and pats them. She thinks sea holly is hysterical because it's "sharp". The other day my mom found her with her face sideways on the ground and her butt in the air, having a conversation with a caterpillar. I haven't started a garden for her yet but I've been thinking about it.

Popmama, like Dick, I too have found end of season sales at grocery stores. That is how I came to own my 'June' and 'Golden Tiara' - each under $7 late in the season back in 2009. I actually think I forgot to pick up what sent me to the store in the first place, lol....the hostas were at the outside entrance of the store and the first thing I saw! Too excited about the find and the price! Keep your eyes open, Popmama for you never know what you can find in grocery stores ;-).

My order just came in yesterday. Two huge boxes from ARE. My hubby didn't say a thing! LOL. The way I see it is that 1. I work, so I can buy whatever I want. and 2. I never say anything about his ever expanding Batman collection. LOL. Anyway, I can't wait to unbox everything. So exciting! This is my first order from ARE. It's cold here and we are expecting snow on Sunday. Major bummer. For now, I'll just water the plants and leave them in our small greenhouse (on the floor, away from direct sun). I also have my 3 roses from Palatine. Those will get potted and also, placed on the floor for now, away from the sun. Once everything leafs out, they will get placed on the benches in sun.

I ordered most of mine to be shipped the 2nd week of April. I'm not waiting very patiently!

Not patient either.. LOL, the best part of getting my order from Hallsons last year was wondering what bonus hosta he was going to include, I got Alex Summers.

Too embarassed to say how many new hostas I've bought in last two days.

Here's my favorite one, Blue Hawaii. This is a 2 gallon put and the leaves are about 10 inches high.(First try at posting pictures.)

I got Blue Hawaii this spring also! It isn't up quite as much as that, but has multiple eyes and is coming up nicely. I got mine bare root at the beginning of the potting season and put it right in the ground. It looks from your picture like it is going to be really good!

Alex Summers as a freebie would be awesome. Your Blue Hawaii looks like it has a ton of eyes. Did you get it mail order? If so, from whom?

Yes, Chris Alex Summers as a freebie was awesome! We bought Blue Hawaii from Romence Gardens in Portage, Michigan. It's about 60 miles from our home, we drove down on Saturday and came home with a car full. They had rows of hostas that they brought out of dormancy early for Michigan State University's School of Agriculture.
