So busy I almost missed it...

With the garden going in right now, my poor houseplants are lucky to get watered and moved in when its cold. But despite the neglect, Red Buttons has bloomed! It has made several attempts since I got it last year but the buds always blasted. I am not dissapointed! They are beautiful! They don't smell all that great. Too musky for me but DH likes them.

Bones seems to think it's pretty cool too.

Wow my plant was a five foot tall monster before it bloomed for the first time. Congratulations on the blooms and cute photo with your cat.

Ooooh! Those photos turned out really cool in that light! So warm and velvety. Just stunning. I don't think you could have done a better job capturing their rich beauty.

Perfect picture with your cat, too. I LOVE it! He's obviously in "good cat" mode. They're either being as delicate as glassworkers or as ruthless as, well, predators.

Kay, how are you? I haven't been around for a while, I had to take a break and get myself together. To everyone I want to tell you that I am so sorry for your loss and sadness, it is the worst pain anyone can have BUT it does get better, I promise. My heart and soul mate died 14 months ago and I wanted to die with him, I was in so much pain and so scared of what was going to happen to me without him; life must go on. I was told that it doesn't get better but it gets different and they were right. I still weep and some days are bad but I have more good days as time goes on. Life won't seem so alien after a while, I just felt like I didn't belong here any more, not in my home, my job or this world but I did finally settle with my feet back on the ground. It's not easy but you have to push youself to live and it eventually gets easier. Please take care of yourselves, get help if you need it and work hard at being strong, we will never forget and we will always love them and happier days are ahead. God Bless all, Mav.

We are pushing HARD to get in that house by Christmas. I was out there until 10:00 last night running trim in the livingroom. Once the last of this granite goes in, I can trim the kitchen and living room windows. Still some things left to do (like our final electricity hook-up which should happen in the next couple of days). Then we will start moving in, even though our certificate of occupancy won't happen until january. We told the county inspector that we would be celebrating Christmas in the new house...he was OK with that, even though we won't have the official go-ahead to move in. He's a nice guy.

Funk if you have the time and patience it would definitely be worth it. After you prep each piece they are about 1/4-3/8in thick. It took about 300 pieces to make a 30x60in table top. Depending on where you live it's probably going to be heart pine, cedar, or fur all of which are beautiful. It's more time consuming to save it since you can't just go at a wall with a sledge but it is really a shame so much of it just gets thrown out. Maybe you can work something out where you can have the wood for free if you remove it from a home.

Hi all! Had a lovely cool shower! My neighbors just gave me one of those detachable shower heads with the hose on it. They're moving and didn't need it. Last night Frank came over and put it on. It's been years since I've had one of those so it's a real treat! Then I had my lunch--Greek yogurt with a little granola, and my noon cup of coffee. :-). Finally went outside to get those pics for Caroline! So this is the house number we hung up on the side of the house. Underneath it are the stickers that are so tacky. We put a rope hanger on it and stuck a hook on the house with adhesive and then hung the sign on it: It's visible from the street, which was our main objective. Secondarily, we're going for a cottage look, so this was the first small step. Here's the "Cozy Cottage" sign we made and put up on a tree next to the street. It's also very visible and we think it's cute, lol! The second pic here was taken from the street. I know this wouldn't fit everyone's style or taste, but it works for us. I also wanted to mention that I was at the hardware store the other day and they had quite a variety of numbers, mostly metal and/or plastic, in black and kind of brass, that looked like you screw them into the post or wall. Congrats TigerDawn! I, for one, love the scent of Red Buttons! After I got my plant from Sue last year, it bloomed shortly after. To me it smelled musky during the day and at night, when it got stronger, it smelled more sweet, almost like a Tootsie Roll to my nose. I hope mine does bloom again soon!

Thanks everyone! Pepeuve- the cat's name is Bones. He's only 7 months old and already as big as my other adult cat. We think he may be part Ragdoll.

Great photos, TD! Bones is gorgeous - every bit as gorgeous as your 'RB' flowers! I love all the pubicalyx cultivars that have bloomed for me so far. Right now, 'Bright One' is budding up for me for the first time. It's so exciting when you see the first flowers! Right now, my 'Mathilde' is blooming for the first time...

She's a pretty common one, but it got me very excited!

I usually get frustrated trying to take pictures after dark. But I put the plant in front of my honey colored kitchen cabinets, and then put a cfl lamp under the flowers. I want to get natural light pictures too before the blooms fade.
