Fall is in the Air! There is talk of plant swaps and meetups! Talk of Pie?

A copy of our ad: Hi Mr. Schiermann, Thanks for responding so quickly to my inquiry regarding the placing of a notice in the "What's Happening" section of the "Coffee News". I have placed word of your generosity in my post on GardenWeb informing everyone of "CN", and hope we'll all respond by asking our local establishments to not only offer it, but to consider doing business with those who advertise on it's pages. Kindly consider including the following in the next volume: -------------------------------- Oct. 1 - Central Alabama Plant Swap; Oak Mtn. State Park from 10am until, at the Cardinal Pavilion. We swap anything garden related, from live plants to compost, driftwood, mulch, river rock, garden "junk" - even homemade goods. But we mostly have a good time and establish friendships based upon our love of gardening. Lunch is potluck, so bring your favorite dish to share. A donation of $1 to $2 toward pavilion rental is appreciated. For more information e-mail: ourhighlandhome@aol.com. --------------------------------- Hope this meets with everyone's approval. Look for it in the next volume of "Coffee News", and let Mr. Mike Schiermann know how much we appreciate his publication, please. Also, that same day, just outside the park entrance at the Verizon Wireless Music Center, from 1pm until 9pm, there is a "Shelby Blues & BBQ" event (www.shelbybluesandbbq.org). There will be MUCH TO DO there besides food & drink, including watching both the 'Bama and 'all-Barn' games on big-screen-TV's (no bias intended). ;-D In addition, The Plany Odyssey, Myer's Pottery, Hanna's Nursery and John Deere Landscapes are four of the most notable nurseries in the plant business - all within easy driving distance of our swap. I was always told that the older varieties needed a pollinator and the 'Mother Vine' would certainly fit that category but I can't find any resource that answers the question. I wouldn't worry about it - there are so many wild and cultivated grapes around that there isn't much need to own your own pollinator... I think

Red_bird, You should start a new thread and tell us what went wrong with your rose cuttings. I know there are at least a couple of rose experts on here that could probably tell you what you could do to get better results. I have grown lots of different types of plants from cuttings, but haven't done roses (yet). I have heard they were supposed to be pretty easy though. Don't worry about not being able to bring alot to the swap. The effort you made to grow the rose cuttings (which would have probably have gone over quite well) shows you tried. As long as you show up and give some poor little orphaned plants a home, you'll be fine. Maybe you can give the rose cuttings another go next spring.

going to be loading my car as well soon, just in case we get some rain - I would like everything to be in there, I have other things I did not mention before - plants that is, that I am bringing too- sure there will be people there who are just starting- and I started doing clippings and now have way too many of some things out here.

If anyone has a swap/meet anywhere close to Gainesville, I'm in. I don't own a car, and ZipCar only allows you 180 miles for a daily rental, so it would have to be pretty close.

I am infested with chili thrips and I can't host or swap anything that might pass on the evil little things. I've soaked everything with Spinosad but they keep coming back. Blast!

I'm certainly interested if Hester does one in Sarasota. Don't have a lot of unique things, but lots of blanket flower (gaillardia) seeds, morning glory seeds, aloe pups, and should have agave pups coming out my ears soon!

For those who might have missed it, here is the Oakland Garden Party on Oct 22 (link below).

This will only be my second garden party, but they are so ever much fun and you learn so much. I hope you all in other areas can get something going.

My place is really not all that interesting, so I'll not plan anything fancy on Oct 29. If you happen to be planning to visit the Seminole County MG expo, you can drop by if you want. Heck, folks can drop by just about anytime - ping me first.

You can make it solid for Nov. 12th. My citrus leaves just started curling so I've got to look into that.
