You might get another chance soon - I hope so! My own started re-forming buds as soon as the spent flowers fell off.
Luckily for me, my Hoyas are all hanging where I see them easily and regularly, but I have missed flowers on other plants under lights. I know how you feel; it's really frustrating, especially for a plant that's reluctant to bloom in the first place.

Thanks Jen! Yeah, the mealey battle has been a full scale war this winter. I had one plant (a veitchii gardenia) that I found last spring that had mealies and I had isolated it and worked on it all last year and through the winter (it is finally clear). But by golly it spread like wildfire in here - hoyas, stephanotis, passifloras, oleander, coffee arabica. They completely took down my regular carnosa last summer and all I could do was cut a clean piece off, root it in water, and pot it up. The rest of the plant was tossed as the vines progessively died due to the stress. The cutting is doing well so far. The only things they didn't touch in the immediate area were my overwintering habanero pepper plants and my rose-scented geranium. That's interesting to consider. LOL

I got the stems all sprayed on the compacta and I put it outside to isolate and will continue the treatments every couple days. Look forward to seeing it bloom again!

Now to attack the lacunosa, which has been blooming on and off all winter but that got the mealies first. The lacunosa has such fragile leaves compared to the carnosas that I wanted to be extra careful with it. Plus it has tons and tons of bloom pedicels all over it that I don't want to knock off. Then I have to tackle the incurvula, which doesn't seem to have it that bad. In fact, I might do that one next and leave the lacunosa for last.

I am so happy...I too got a bloom on my var. rope hoya. I have a big one with 4 long vines and fortunately it is right outside my kitchen window, so I didn't miss it when it started forming the buds (also on the very bottom of one of the long vines.) It is a beautiful pink bloom and I went out yesterday & took a couple of pics. Will post them when I get back to my own computer. I get mealies on the ones in the house too. Isn't it funny how they seem to be so much worse in the house? An interesting observation is that the plants I used the "Bayer House Plant Spikes" in didn't have any bugs of any kind. Those things really worked, however they are expensive (5.29 for 10 spikes, and you have to use 2 of them in a 6 in plant,) so I didn't put them in all my plants. They actually look more like little capsules/pills rather than "spikes". The ones I put them in I tied a little string around the pot hanger so I would know which ones had them. Another thing I disliked about them was that they also contain fertilizer. I really didn't want to use fertilizer over the winter, but figured I would just try a few anyway. Didn't seem to hurt them any and those plants are bug free. Guess I will be picking up some more of that stuff. Ha

Wow that's nice! I wish I could have captured my first bloom when it happened but oh well... At least I found that something had happened with it. Look forward to the reblooms!

I did manage to finally get to one of my nearby nurseries to get a whole bagful of stuff including the systemics. Time to take the battle to a whole new level. ;-)

One great tip I read here--the liquid Rose and Flower Care of the Bayer product Marcy mentioned works as well as the little tablets and is *much* cheaper and easier to find. Plus for compacta mealies, I've actually wrapped the roots in plastic to make sure they don't touch anything and submerged the rest of each vine in a bowl of pure alcohol. It was the only thing that saved a very old plant.

Thanks Mare! I literally just got done watering my 3 big hoyas with prepared Bayer Advanced All-in-One Rose and Flower Care. My rooted cutting of plain carnosa has been away from the rest and has been clear so far.

I'll be making up some more batches to do one of my passifloras (but not the edulises, which I'm going to have to do manually since that can produce edible fruit), my oleander, and my stephanotis (which has them pretty significantly). It's kind of interesting that they didn't touch my bougie, although they did discover my pointsettia (which I repotted last week and took care of the stowaways on it).

And yes, that spur is intact. Am hoping there are others on there but I haven't really looked hard recently, since I used to do that all the time and could never find any - so I figured if I ignored it, then.... heh

I like the idea of dunking in alcohol. I may consider that if I buy some more alcohol (I just have one big bottle left that I've been using for hit and miss type stuff).

Jenny, what systemic are you using for the mealies? Have had the worst case ever of them this year. Can't keep up with them--it's a constant battle. I'm using alcohol, but maybe I'm too afraid about getting it near the roots. Keep repeating the treatments, but they keep coming back.

Almost missed a kerrii bloom because it vined in front of a jungle of other things in the window.

Karen - I am trying "Bayer Advanced All-in-One Rose and Flower Care". The main ingredient as an insecticide is imidacloprid, which has been an oft-mentioned miracle ingredient here on this forum. :-) IIRC, it's a synthetic variant of nicotine. The product recommends reapplication after 6 weeks. Am crossing fingers!
