While not a 'rabid' hoya grower like many on this forum, I do have 5 of them (and not looking for any more -- they take away room from my orchids), only one of them was already rooted when I got it. In all 4 cases, I simply used the method Mike mentioned: Some growers will take a long cutting and coil it around and pin it down on top of the potting mix to root. This gives a strong plant with a large root system quickly. All rooted effortlessly utilizing this method. No bagging or anything except keeping the soil lightly moist ... when I remembered to that is.

Wildcat-- your plant looks wonderful! I'm real pleased that mine's up to about a dozen inflorescences or bud clusters, but yours is amazing! As to the compacta vs. 'Kinkle 8' issue, I suspect that cultural conditions may affect how tightly contorted compacta's leaves grow. I'll link a shot of a portion of one vine on my plant. At the top, there are leaves that twist and fold over on themselves, typical of compacta. Further down, the leaves straighten out and look very much like Krinkle 8, but down a little further yet they become more contorted again (getting out of the shot, but you can see the one cut off at the bottom is more in-folded.) Looking at Wildcat's plant's leaves I see the same sort of thing-- vines with leaves more contorted at certain levels (the base and the tips of her plant) and flatter but dimpled at other levels (toward the center of each vine.) I think it might be a reaction to periods of faster (more light, heat, moisture) and slower (winter) growth. Here is a link that might be useful: H. compacta vine

Billy, you are absolutely right..Someone probably got the multiflora, didn't know what it was, was too shy to ask, and most likely, well, let's say it's now in hoya heaven. I admonished my dh Saturday..lol..Even though he was trying to help, I'd bet he placed your multiflora in another box. (Because he was in a hurry, rushing me) I told him, next time, if there is a next time, I'll pack plants, although I appreciate your help..he felt hurt, I'm sure, but also a tad angry..When he suddenly had a 'tude', I told him he's an old grouch..lol..that really pissed him off. Today I got one of two shipments from Aleyagarden. One Hoya sigillatis. Its colors are striking. Got a few Aglaos and another variegated Adenium. lol.. And 3 more Hoyas on the way..After this, I'm on standstill until next spring. Problem is, there's a few plants on Ebay I'd like..too bad shipping is so expensive..Darn..a plant can cost 2.99, but when they add S&H, invoice comes out to 10.50.. I totally need this hoya LOL! We have chickens and we're in the city, more and more cities are allowing chickens now. If yours doesn't go to backyardchickens.com or get Pat Foremans City Chicks book, both will give you the resources to get your city laws amended to allow chickens. We have 2 Rhode Island Reds that lay about a dozen eggs a week and a bunch of little chicks that will eventually lay eggs. @ Eileen I have some silkie chicks that will be pretty tame and grown by the wedding, you can borrow a splash (whose mostly white) or even better one of the blues and she can carry it LOL! My best nursery for hoyas is in Kansas city!! I go every time I visit my Aunt and bought 4 last year. No carnosa either. It's a big place, I think part of a chain. I'll have to find the name. We go nuts there, it's a good thing bearded iris won't grow for me or I'd need a trailer to get home. They are just so tempting and they have an astounding variety of coneflowers, which also won't grow for me. Tally Ho!
