I spy 2 of my little guys...

Popping up from the mulch under the tree in the front yard is First Mate and Little Treasure, two of the minis I planted last year. They are joining their big sis the undulata mediopicta, which by now is sporting many eyes and a couple of unfurled stems. I am delighted to see that they "took", probably helped along by our ridiculously mild (but very welcome!) winter.

This season can be so full of anxiety as we wait to see whether hosta have survived. 90% of mine are showing some signs of life but the other 10% make me crazy. Where's my big, beautiful Great Expectations? Where's Mt. Snow? Will Fire & Ice return?

And of the 90%, I have to ask, Will Blue-Haired Lady and Liberty survive their brush with frost? Liberty and Sagae are 5 feet apart and were equally unfurled when the temps dropped to 25; Sagae looks wonderful; Liberty looks awful.

I couldn't go through this anxiety every year if they didn't give me so much pleasure for so many months. N

Looks like my Sagae is ok too but damage to a number of others. Empress Wu was about 3 inches tall but no damage so glad as this is it's 4th year and now has 11 buds showing and are about 3/4 of an inch thick. Accuweather.com which I use now goes out 25 days and shows most of the month here in NE Pa to be cool so lots of stress on tap for the next three weeks.

Thanks Kathy! I am very very sure my gear-head bro can get it going if it's just water in the gas tank. I am pretty sure it's just the water thing. It starts and actually runs for a minute or two before dying, so it's not the ECU. I dried the car out by parking it up a hill (so the water would drain off) and opening the hood and putting the top down. It's almost ready for Mark to come fix it. Thank you for asking Janis; I am glad you care. I am so glad Nancy is ok! The tracks are still under water. Sewer water. She needs to stay out if it. Have you seen the footage of the horses being saved? It's almost as good as the humans being saved.

berndoodle, it's partly my fault. I had the bands in pots for over a year. They were doing fine out on my deck until we had that disastrous 10 degree day I think in February. By the time I got home from work, Devonesis was already frozen solid and died. The rest seemed fine and started to come out of dormancy. Then we had tons of rain. Some of the pots got too saturated and I guess didn't have great drainage. I lost Monsieur Tiller and Marie Van Houtte. A few, including Mrs. BR Cant did not look great when I planted them, but did have healthy root systems. So it's been struggling along with the weeks of rain/no sun. Then 90 degrees searing sun and had just started to sprout (DH calls it the wee wee rose LOL). So that's what made it especially frustrating when I saw the one itty bitty cane with little leaf sprouts lying on the ground. But so far so good. It hasn't shriveled up yet. I do have a trip planned to Roses unlimited, so If I do have to replace her too, I will. I've planned this bed for over a year and I am sure what roses I want where, so I have to replace them. I have the fence up now, which is good because my neighbors little dog keeps running in my yard and then the kids come in to chase it down. Yikes.

IT support people and computer repairmen are like doctors - to do their job, they sometimes see the naked you. In both occupations, 99% of those so employed take no notice of the personal things they see. Some number of them have odd personalities but that's how it is. Most of the time it's harmless. All of the time, you have no choice if you want their services. When a browser is set to "remember passwords", then yes, they can log on to your accounts if they care to do so. That's why using that feature is never a good idea (in my opinion).

Lois, The Littlest Warrior Project is for a NICU at a Military hospital in California to cover incubators. My friend had a great-grandson spend a few months in an incubator and they weren't using anything to cover it to block out the strong lights they have to use. I had told her about how when we used an eye-shield (of sorts) for our Raina, she could open her eyes and look at us. So she had the idea of making the quiltlets and took them in. They were such a hit that she continued making them and there are others who help her now. 24 X 36 is what she and the nurses figured out worked the best.

My great Ex are looking good and coming up (all 5) and I have four Sagae that are going from junior plants to those beautiful adult leaves. All covered and hoping to dodge the bullets...

As far advanced as are many of my container hosta, I have three in the ground which concerned me. This will be the first time for them to emerge from dormant state, since I've only had ANY hosta since May of last year, in Mobile anyway.

Then yesterday I noticed the pal green shoots of Winter Snow rising above the leaf mulch. Where the other two ground dwelling hosta were located, near their stakes, I brushed aside the leaves and saw very small eyes for Blue Angel and Fragrant Bouquet.

These are my test plants, to see what difference I can expect from ground gardening and container gardening, as I am doing with the balance of my hosta--quite a few. I can see the ones in the containers a lot easier. It is stressful to wonder about those in the ground. I'd written off those three already, now have to deal with them too.
