My Emmerich Intros for Nat4b Warning- Very Picture Heavy

Nat4b, be careful what you ask for. Since it is down time in the daylily garden, it was fun to go through pictures to find my Emmerich intros. In no particular order, here they are:

I also have Coronation Day which I have not yet allowed to bloom since I am growing the plant at the time, and want it larger.

These were taken with a Canon EOS 20 D, and have had no phto-shopping, color enhancement or change, and (as is probably obvious) no lightening or darkening.

Also, since I live in the hot south, almost all purples tend to be the reddish sort. My soil, my climate, it took me a long time to give up to that fact and be satisfied, but it is true across the board...purple isn't here.

I love Karol's intros, and they do exceedingly well here.

May I be the first to say, "Oh Wow". Those are really nice. Man Of Sorrows, Count It all Joy, and Wall of Fire in particular are my favorites. Again, your combination of Women at the Well and Primal Scream shows a good eye for color. I'll have to look at her site again and see if she has anything in my budget.......Maryl

I wonder if they would do well in the north. There are quite a few I really like, Women at the Well, Wall of Fire, Filled to Overflowing and King of Ages. Thanks for posting these beauties. Marg

Marg- That one in the first picture on the right is STARBLAZE. It is not white, just looks lighter than normal there in the picture. Usually a cream yellow but very pretty. The pinkish to the left is BLISSFUL BEAUTY. Got it from Maryotts in 2007. Nancy- I started with one 35 gallon 'pond' got another 35 gallon that I put inground which is in the very backyard. Then I got the 300 gallon stocktank years later which is my 'big' pond. I wish all of them were bigger. I just don't really have room for another pond although there is one place were I could take out everything growing there (roses, lilies, honeysuckle vines and some coneflowers) and do a liner pond. It would have to be liner pond because of the irrigular shape and so I could have it deep enough not to freeze to the bottom. My 300 gallon is ok but those 35 gallons just freeze all the way. Nothing overwinters in there. Lloyd- If you have never had Culver intros before you will be happily surprised at the branching and blooming on the Culver intros. They are just wonderful. TIKAL MAID, GIGGLE CREEK and FOX POINT are all of his three instant rebloomers that I have and I love them. All very heavy blooming and they clump up quickly. Jean- My fish are not really any trouble. They eat up any mosquito larvea and other than having to clean the pump about weelly and net any stray leaves that fall into the pond, there is not much to do. The water stays clear right down to the bottom.

Debra- I think you would love FINAL DESTINATION. And it has been a strong rebloomer and thats really nice as the rebloom scapes come late when there is not much going on. These Hollyhocks pictured are called 'Queeney Purple'. They bloom with some of the blooms single and some double. They really do bloom for a very long times. They have been going for weeks and weeks and are no where near done yet as you can see. They are in my rose garden bed at the side of my house. I used to have honeysuckle on a trellis there and then that died. So I moved in a sprawling shrub rose and that died. So this spring I reset the trellis and planted two different types of honeysuckle vine there and the hollyhocks in front of the vines. I just love how it turned out. This was all part of my plan to bring back things that grew here before the worst of the daylily crazies hit. Somehow with lots of the hardscape necessary to make the daylily beds lots of things usued to be here died out. Then I was so focused on daylilies I just didn't do anything about that. This year I started to put in improved versions of things that used to be here. I don't want it too look like a daylily sales garden. Yes, I want it to be heavy on the daylilies but I want a garden with other plants too.

Rita, I'm glad you posted this link. I spent the better portion of 3 hours last night viewing her website. I'd click on a new intro and then click on the babies link. I've never seen such beauty. Her colors and eyezones are awesome to say the least. I also downloaded her 2010 presentation. It's great. It does take awhile to load it, so be prepared. She does warn that it's a big file. When I finally stopped, I still lack some seeing them all, I wrote her a brief email telling her how much I enjoyed the site. She wrote back a very nice thank you. God willing, I will be buying some of her intros. Probably will be the older ones, but they are great to me, too. If you have time, view her future intros. You will enjoy the experience. WOW, Kay! Every one of these is stunning. I have had to go back & forth looking at all of them and have viewed this thread twice now and can't pick a favorite. They are ALL too gorgeous. I declare them all my favorite! I only have a couple Emmerichs but they are doing awesome here. I love that they are bred for cold-hardiness because it's brutal here in the winter, but they are outstanding in your warmer climate too. I have to get MORE Emmerichs a.s.a.p. Thanks for the beautiful photographs...I am sure I will come back to them again.

Marg: I have several of Karol's intros too and most do fine in the north. I did have trouble with 2 that I have - FILLED TO OVERFLOWING and OPEN DOOR. I took Kay's suggestion and moved FILLED TO OVERFLOWING to see if a new location would promote better performance. However, OPEN DOOR decided this year it would bloom a bit better than in past years so I left it where it was.

I also have had for several years NO MORE TEARS,LIGHT OF THE WORLD,SOUL ON FIRE and SEVENTY TIMES SEVEN.All do very good here. I added this year from Karol COUNT IT ALL JOY , ISLE OF PATMOS and INTELLIGENT DESIGN.

I don't even know which one I like the best. 'Man of Sorrows', without doubt. 'Cup of Cold Water', 'Fear Not', well all!
Atm, she is my favorite hybridizer, and I've added several I could afford (bought from others though).
I noticed that in my yard purples are getting red too, so maybe it's not a south problem. In any case, I love them how they are.

Emmerich has been suggested several times for producing northern hardy rebloomers. I have looked at her site a few times since spring and many of her older and I would assume more reasonably priced Daylillies have been listed as not available every time I look. If she no longer sells them, were do you guys/gals purchase these? I have seen some on the LA, but would rather purchase several at one time to save on shipping. Is there a Daylily garden that raises and sells Emmerich's earlier intro's.

Gale: You should contact Karol directly and inquire if she still has any available that you may be interested. You may get lucky and she may have a couple of fans to sell but no guarantee. Worth trying.
