Annie, With the five petals spread out that way looks like to me it could be Texas star. Im no expert .But the red on the stems and leaves tells me it may be something else. possibly lord baltimore ? hope this helps lol Kelley

First, you have a double apricot tropical hibiscus. Not hardy in your zone. The word "tropical" should tell you that it would not do well in Ohio. If you have it in the ground, dig it up and put it in a pot and bring it in when temps get below 50, or you'll have a dead tree on your hands. Tropical hibiscus are temperamental plants. They don't like temperature changes, extremes in temperatures, or any other environmental changes. They will drop leaves if their environment changes suddenly, say high daytime temps and low nighttime temps. Most double hibiscus don't bloom prolifically. The singles bloom much better. Try a 2-10-10 fertilizer. If you give them Miracle Gro or something like that, they will grow and hardly ever bloom. They need low nitrogen fertilizers to discourage growth and encourage bloom. I'm not sure about hibiscus seed but when you plant seeds from many plants the seedlings are not at all like the seedpod mother or father. So this seedling would need to be named by the person who planted the seed. Does the hibiscus society have a place to register seedlings? Nancy

The blooms are small. Only a few inches across. The nursery I bought it from did not have a name tag in it other than being in the aisle with a bunch of other hibiscus. I wasn't thinking at the time to ask the people at the nursery of its name-it was an extremely hot & humid day, & another nursery I had been to that day had given me a lot of trouble & ruined my attitude. Plus a storm was rolling in, & we were in a rush to beat it back home.
