Favorite/Best Blue Hosta?
Comments (17)I have both Halcyon and Fragrant Blue and definitely agree with Ken. Halcyon is easily the better of the two. I'm pretty sure it doesn't get too much bigger than the space you'd be looking to fill as well. I've heard a lot of good things about Skylight, but don't have one myself. I also have Love Pat, Blue Angel, Blue Ice, and Blue Jay. Blue Angel would be way too big and isn't really the bluest of blues. Blue Ice is probably one of my favorite blues, but might be too small. I think it's a mini. (Either that or mine isn't growing very well. haha) I've only had Blue Jay since late last year, so can't really say how it does. Love Pat would probably be a good candidate. Like Halcyon it's a pretty blue and wouldn't get too much bigger than your space. If it were me, I'd go for either Halcyon or Love Pat. Just my thoughts/experiences. Hope they help. Good luck!...See MoreFavorite Big Blue Hosta
Comments (16)I like big blues. I have Elegans for 15 years, they gave many seedlings. I like Blue Umbrellas, which is vase shape and big. I have a 4 year old Blue Mammoth, which probably need another 5 years to be really big. I have 3 Krossa Regals which look big and light blue right now. Big Daddy is more than 10 years old, only recently got big. Blue Hawai is to be big too, mine is young. And don't forget Queen of the Seas with piecrust. Sorry, no pictures, I forgot my password to photobucket, then they messed me up. Latest is they wanted my webmodem id, but mine has 5 id stickers. Comments (12)Camelot has always interested me, but I'm seriously out of room. I ended up with what I think is Blue Cadet several years ago when I thought I was buying a second Hadspen Blue. Even though I didn't intend to buy BC, I really love it. It's perfect little plain mound makes it stand out when surrounded by "flashier" hosta, IMO. But I will say that mine isn't THAT small. I'm not sure if it's done growing or what, but it's noticeably bigger than last year. I also went through an "OMG, I need to tone it down" phase after I started collecting hosta. I think everyone gravitates towards the variegated ones in the beginning. To add more balance yet not be boring, I looked into getting some interesting solid greens. I have a grouping of Lily Pad, Rosedale Spoons, and Manhattan, which is probably my favorite combination in the whole garden...and they are just green!...See MoreFavorite small/medium sun tolerant hosta
Comments (19)That's really interesting - how different hosta do in different places. By this time of the year, most everything at my house has a few crunchy patches. This year, Dark Star burned. It's one that my dog got, though, so it's reverted to juvenile leaves and is small again. Francee never burns for me. It's 101 today, by my thermometer. This is Francee just now. (She isn't in a lot of sun, though.) bk...See Morehostaholic2 z 4, MN
