Wild Ornamental Grass?

Does anyone know what the wild (invasive?) ornamental grass is that's growing everywhere along the roads in Seminole County? I have some in an area of my backyard that I haven't planted anything in yet. It is about 5 ft tall, green and when break the leaves off of it they are sticky. Hmm...maybe I should take a picture of it.

I don't know if it is a good thing to have or not. It seems to spread quite a bit though and it grows very quickly.

I can't picture what you mean, Wendy. If you could get a picture, though, someone on here could probably let you know what it is. (If you have any trouble posting pics, give a holler!)

The picture is a bit distant, but it looks like Vaccinium arboreum, sometimes called Sparkleberry or Farkleberry. The foliage on it is often shiny, in fact the foliage is one thing I like about it.

Ornamental Grasses for field next to property

If I understand your question correctly, you want to plant a couple of fields of ornamental grasses, to total about 1.5 acres, on either side of your yard? My first question would be is it possible to plant borders between the fields and the yard? This would give you the separation you seek, and be much less expense, initial work and maintenance.

Not up here, Wendy. That usually grows farther south, AND it will cut your hands up if you handle it, too. It's got jagged edges along the blade that are very sharp, hence the name. I've never seen any around here, myself. But there are lots of tall, interesting grasses, especially along the water.

Grab yer camera, girl, and go get us a picture! We'll figure it out then, I'll bet.

I googled Sawgrass and I'm not sure that that's it. The leaves are wider?

While all of Florida is shown on range maps for sawgrass, I have never come across it in central Florida, myself. It is abundant in the Everglades, of course, and I suppose it crops up around here somewhere, but I really don't believe it would be a grass you would spot around Seminole County regularly. I could be wrong, of course, not being an expert on grass, but my best guess is the one you are asking about is something else. So...let's get us a picture.

First thing you do is upload your picture to an online host like Photobucket. (It's free). Once you have your picture on Photobucket, you put a check mark in the box under the thumbnail of the picture, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on the button that says Generate HTML & Image Code. A page will come up with 5 different codes. Highlight and Copy the second one and paste it into your GW message, et voila! Your picture will show up when you submit your post to GW.

An easy way to share pictures here on a regular basis is to set up on album just for GW on Photobucket, and always load your pictures to that album. I have a folder on my desktop especially for Garden Web, and that's where I store mine on my computer. Then I upload from that folder to Photobucket, then do the copy & paste thingie, and the photos are then in your message.

There is also false bamboo, but then again it grows around the lake?
