Some of you already know about this program, but I just want to shout this from the highest hill so everyone will know about it.

I just have to share this information with ya'll. When we find something that works and cuts out so much work for us it's wonderfult to share our knowledge with others. ANYWAY......

There is a flower program that only cost $29.99 from Rockett Computer Services and it's WONDERFUL.

Did I by any chance tell you it is WONDERFULLLLLLLLLL???

It does most of the work for you. The man wrote this program for his wife and everyone wanted it.LOL

As most of you know I have over 500 different irises. Well it has an iris program and everything built into it. He is working on improving this part of the program so it will do the same as the daylily part. However

if it doesn't have the plant individually named like BRUGS you can list them under something else like annuals or perrenials and still have EVERYTHING at the tip of your fingers.

All I can tell you is that is will blow your socks off.

The part that impressed me the most is for Daylilies. All I have to do is start typing the name and it gives you a search mode and they come up and you just click on the one you want and it automatically fills in all the fields, tells you what year it came out, who the hybridzer is, bloom size, and everything else you would ever want to know about it. In other words even a DUMMY LIKE ME can use the program. It is very user friendly. Not only that as soon as Kent received my money for the program he emailed it to me. Fast fast fast. Then being the dummy I am, I had a problem right off the bat, he answered me right away and was on the phone with me at 8:30 this morning to walk me through everything. Thank God, because if he hadn't have showed me a couple of the features I would have hand typed every single plant into the program. It also has a place for you to put a photo of your plants with all the information. Just like other places you can even do your slid show from the program. Did I mention it also will make you a catalogue if you want to sell your plants? It also has a report feature where you just click on it and it will show you all your plants, bloom season, colors, height, and ahhhh so much more.

If I sound excited about this, that's putting it mildly, my mind is running about 1000 miles an hour as to how much time this is going to save me.

I can not say enough about this program. He is also working on it and adding updates regularly, so if you have something you think he needs to add he will consider it and most likely make the changes. The updates are free once you buy the program. That's another selling point.

All I can say is that if I can use it and it keeps everything neat and orderly I will no longer have to keep all these notebooks and all the scraps of notes jotted down here and there, that I lose all the time anyway.

I can't say enough about this program. I hope some of you will try it!!!!!

This is the next best thing since sliced bread as far as I'm concerened.

Sounds like the same sort of daylily program that others have posted about here on the forum. Glad to hear you've found it helpful for you.
I've stuck to my spreadsheet and spent the $$'s on more dl's this year. Maybe in the future when I reach the 500 mark I'll break down and get a more sophisticated system. LOL
Along with the computer spreadsheet, I still keep my handwritten log journal, made a map of the garden of where everything has been planted giving each planting bed a number. Paranoid or just OCD?

I have a red daylily maybe it is more of a crimson. and a peach or coral with a red center. not sure what kind there are. I did buy from a lily enthusiast thinning out her garden.. I do have pictures if you want to see them. please email me if you would like to trade. I am up for anything.

John (johnnp) wishes he could grow rokes and purple stripes, and I wish I could grow creoles and better artichokes and silverskins. I am experimenting with Asiatics and Turbans but have my doubts of success. It is funny that we gardeners and growers never seem to be satisfied with what we have, but challenge and pushing the envelope is often what keeps the interest (obsession?) going I think. :-) "I like large cloves (can't imagine using only part of a clove - my recipes call for garlic by the bulb! :-)" - Believe me, I hear you. I will roast a whole roke bulb and eat it for dinner! But I think most people out there wish to use garlic as a subtle accent in food, they do not want it to be the overriding flavor. Those are the folks one must cater the marketing to, IMHO, because there are more of them then there are garlic fanatics. The garlic fanatics are well educated when it comes to garlic and are the easiest to sell to, all you need is to have quality product. Education of the average customer is important - for example if a recipe calls out for "one clove" it typically means one small clove of that insipid, mediocre grocery store stuff. Use a golfball-sized clove from a wonderful organically grown porcelain variety and it could overpower all the other flavors in the food and disappoint folks who were unprepared for this to happen. I have heard complaints about how strongly flavored the boutique garlic varieties are compared to what people are used to using (as if this were a negative!). Most people's palates are still used to the crap grocery store garlic imported from China. People need to be educated, but palates need to be retrained as well. Trivia question (market sellers should know this for their customers): For purposes of following a recipe, how much measured garlic is generally considered to be in one clove? Hardneck scapes - yes, thanks for mentioning, I forgot about them. A wonderful product to sell at markets but they do not stay fresh for very long - the clock starts ticking as soon as they are cut. Another drawback is that they all need to be removed pretty much at the same time so you end up harvesting all of them at once. Also, most people have no clue what they are or how to prepare them, so you must be prepared to educate your potential customers. Best way to market these is to have the scape crop contracted to better restaurants ahead of time (not as difficult as you might think but you better look and act professionally or they will not give you so much as the time of day). Other products - garlic powder, scape powder, chopped garlic, dried garlic slices, pickled cloves, etc. All market growers, if they are cropping correctly, end up with large amounts of reject cloves at planting time and those should be used for making saleable product if possible - would be a shame to just be throwing them away. Such products are not huge sellers but they make for a nice, "busy" market display and can be used as sales premiums and giveaways if nothing else. -Tom

Sorry, BP. I get a lot of mail from GW, and the first thing I usually look at is whether or not you have your home page settings configured so I can reply to you. I didn't notice you'd included your email addy in the body of the message so I deleted the message. I just found it after reading your post. Please forgive? The most important advice I can give you is, the concept behind the soils many of us use is more important than the actual recipe. Distilled, the concept is based on the fact that water held inside of soil particles is not something we would consider as having much potential for limiting root function, and by extension, the well-being of your plants. Water held between particles, is a major contributor to root issues, with the severity of the issues usually linked closely to how much water is held between particles and how long it is held. By increasing particle size and promoting uniformity in particle size, we can eliminate almost all inter-particulate water AND control the volume of intra-particulate water by choosing what material the particles are made of. This concept continues to have a major influence on the ability of growers who understand it and use it as a tool, to consistently bring along healthy plant material. If you have questions or want to understand how it all goes together, there is an ongoing discussion here. Easy (inexpensive and sourced near): - sand, garden soil - granite or small river stones/ quartzite - scoria or red lava rock (i can't find pumice) - coconut husks (shell/ coir) - rice husks/ hulls (some nurseries here grow their coleus in pure husks and i must say theirs look better than mine!) More expensive and harder to acquire: - perlite (though i find it pricey here so i only got one bag and i'm not planning to use it for long term) - "orchid bark", pine bark And... i cannot find turface here. This one stumps me. What can i substitute for it? DE is a no go too. Based on the material above, can you recommend and acceptable mix? When you're building a mix with the idea you want water inside of particles instead of between them, obviously, you'll need some ingredients that can absorb and hold water, and the size of the particles as well as the range in size is also in play. You need particles large enough that the spaces between the particles (macropores) will be largely empty of water. It also does you little good if you carefully screen one or more ingredients, then add sand of topsoil to the screened ingredients. You end up pretty much with a soil that has the drainage and aeration characteristics of a soil comprised of only the fine ingredients, unless the volume of fine ingredients is closely controlled. Let me know if you have questions about what I said so far, please; and tell me about dry/wet seasons and what you think would be an acceptable interval between waterings. Sometimes, practices that offer the best opportunities for plants aren't within what the grower seems reasonable, so compromises need to be made. Firs off, welcome Rebecca! I must say that the mix is probably the culprit behind the demise of your tree. Just the word 'SOIL' in a pot makes me cringe when it comes to the health of citrus and their vitality. Your mix should be very 'porous' and open to allow even the roots to breathe and better repair themselves. Gas exchange every time you water we call it. I think your tree is still very stressed, trying to hang on, and therefore the flowers, but not enough endurance or energy to hold on to its offspring/fruit. I would do a 911 repot as soon as you understand how mixes work in containers and come up with a good mix that will please both you and your tree. Let me link you to what I have learned before I go any further. I feel that first, you must understand the concepts or container mixes and how your plants will react to them and then fertilizer. Before you invest any more money into any others or replacements if that one should go, do this, and then you will be buying all kinds of citrus trees from so much success. jkayd - yes, by color, hybridizer and if you mean dip vs. tet. yes, if you mean SEV vs. EV vs. DOR, yes it does that too. It IS a great program. LOVE IT.

I can not say enough about it. I have over 300 daylilies and I had everything entered into the program in a little over one hour.

Because of all the bells and whistles he has built in ANYONE can do it very FAST.

Trust me Ann it will be the best money you've spent to keep up with ALL your gardening projects. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm just sorry I waited so long to order it. I've been sitting on purchasing it for over 9 months. I've had the letter on my desk that long and just sent off for it last week.

Like I said, it's the best thing since slice bread. LOL

Hi all, I'm back home!!! Had a wonderful time in PA with my DH.
Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth here. This is the same program many of us have raved about in previous threads, and it is a great program. There's not another one out there with the features this one has nor the price, and it's so easy to use too, like Marian said. Believe me, it sure makes keeping up with your dl's and all the stats, etc. an easy task. You can't go wrong with it. :)
