well i feel the same way you do about this winter , i am in Quebec province so i am MORE then fed up of the snow we got this year , but the snow is ok protects the ground for the hostas but it is not just the snow but the roller coaster weather we had all winter , like tons of snow , then ice rain , then snow then drizzle then rain :( grrrr

I have ordered Arctic Blast,Alex Summers,Bennie McRae,Blue-Mammoth, B.Umbrellas,B.Rock,Bodacious Blue,Fickle Blue Genes,Cat & Mouse,Clear Fork River Valley, Guardian Angle,Hack Saw,Key Lime Pie,Kiwi Sky Scraper, Lakeside Coal miner,Mississippi Delta, Orange Marmalade, T-Rex, Valentine Lace,& a few others.....Wow I didn't realize , my hosta collection is nearing the 100 mark this year . Guess that means I am past the hopeless hosta addiction mark now. I can't wait for my orders to come so I get my fingers back in the dirt. Its in the 50'*s here in NJ today, so its gonna be pure torture waiting the next 8-9 weeks. I will be playing w/ my seedlings till then. ;) Dot

If you want a break from winter, come to the New England Hosta Society meeting this Sunday 3/9 at noon at Tower Hill
in Boylston, MA. A little ride for you, but TH is gorgeous, Mike Shadrack, a very entertaining and informative speaker
will be there, and you'll meet, and hopefully join, a group of equally eager hosta loonies.
Just enter Tower Hill Botanic Garden in a search engine and find directions. Come early and enjoy the beautiful Orangerie at T. Hill. Great weekend convention (First Look 8) this June in Ascutney, too.

we in Ohio right now are not thinking about planting any hostas, we are just trying to get through the next winter storm and blizzard. The weather people promised us another 14-18" by tomorrow. At least it will protect our much.

Yikes Manfred! We usually get so much snow that I can't stand it, but it sounds like you're knee deep in it (literally). We've just been getting alot of rain the past week and my daffodils are starting to pop up. I know it's early, but I keep hoping.

Yes, Here I am posting again about the cold!!! Last Thursday night is was -10 and last night (Friday) was -4 and tonight Saturday Mar 8 predicts -2. The only saving factor is that we are below average for snow... I guess March came in like a lion, at least in Minnesota. I hope March changes to a "lamb" soon. So hard to heat the greenhouse with the expensive LP!!!!

Awwww! Winter's the most beautiful season of the year: the cleanest, the brightest.

Ahem. 413 centimetres of the white stuff fell on our fine city so far, and counting, with more to come. This is going to be one of those unbelievable "dead of winter turning to high summer overnight" years, I just know it. I had to go check the furnace outlet tonight (in case it was snowed under) and the snow in my backyard is thigh-high (no, I'm not a midget!). Hubby (a nice boy from the Mississippi) couldn't stop laughing as we trudged through it, he'd never experienced anything like it in his (LOOoooNG) life. Nothing but to try our historic snowshoes out....tomorrow.

Yes, Phil that's corrrrrect - 413 cm divided by 2.54cm/inch equals 162.6 inches. Well, we've had a couple of teeny little snowflakes since then, so you can add 2 or 3 inches on top of that. But of course it melts, sublimes, etc - the snow cover on the ground is "only" (hah!) 89 cm, or 3 feet. My mantra is: the garden is loving it! No freeze-thaw cycles this year, no siree!

This is the snowiest winter I've had the great luck to experience. All the skiers are in 7th heaven up here.

We've had two hot spells already (60-75F) but so far, no hosta action and I'm glad. Our official frost date is April 15, but that's a blue-tongued lie! May 1 is when I finally feel right. No new orders this spring BUT eight hostas for $10 total at Lowe's last November 19. Now I'll just have to wait while they're isolated to make sure they're HVX-free before they get to move into the real beds. I've linked to some photos, but again, I got these at Lowe's, not at the nurseries listed here.
