One would think that Dennis Savory would have pics of all the Savory hybrids. I don't think he frequents the forum though. Maybe you should call him.

Someone hacked into my Photobucket account a couple of years ago. Otherwise I could've supplied you with a number of them. As it is I have 9 or 10 flash cards to go thru and I'm not sure when I will get to viewing them - but I will try. I am in school and have been inundated with homework!

Now I see a very nice pic of H. 'Old Glory' we have here, but, understandably, she's concerned about ownership, I.E. intellectual property rights of such hi-res pics, rightly so.

If you are worried about ownership don't post photos here or anywhere on the internet. Anyone can take them. And I really don't think Ken or any of the convention planners would steal your photos. I know all of them.

Posting a 100k smashed foto on the internet is one thing. Sending the full 4MB version is another, Teresa. I've had several conversations with hosta folk biggies that lead me to believe that sometimes a competitive nature overrides the concept of the 'friendship' plant concept. Shame, yes, but there are those elements around any endeavor. I am so uncomfortable with such things, but am aware that the devil exists...

Any photo that you send to me as the AHS photo editor is used and credited as posted below per our strict guidelines. Josh, the web editor, and myself are the only 2 that have access to the FTP site that we use for storage. The reason for hi res images are numerous with two major reasons being one: that you need a large image to crop to what we use as a final picture and second: when the photo is used in the Journal, the photos can be quite large and require a high resolution. Most contributors actually send much larger files than 4MB. If your photo ends up somewhere else, I can be quite certain that it will not be because you donated them to the AHS. Here is the policy:

AHS PHOTO POLICY

Photos should be submitted as a .jpg file, .gif, RAW or a .psd file to the photo editor via the website link.
There should be no wording on the photos when submitted. The photo editor will add any wording.
The AHS will have unrestricted use of photos for the website and all AHS publications.
The AHS photo editor may enhance, resize and improve the quality of the photo.
Photographer credits will be listed.
The below information should be submitted in an accompanying email.
a. Photographers name
b. Hosta name.
c. Registered (year) or Not Registered (IF KNOWN) (Photo Editor will confirm registration status)
d. Location of the hosta and time of year photo was taken. (IF KNOWN)

I would have no problem trusting Ken and Josh with photos. Anyone that donates so much of their time to the AHS does not strike me as someone who would be unethical.

And seriously HH - I could just right click on one of the many photos you have posted, dump it into Photobucket and email it or post it to any site I wanted to. Not that I want to download your photos - I have hundreds of photos of my own that I never look at.

If one of your photos shows up somewhere it will be because you posted it here. Ken - didn't the forum make it clear a couple of years ago that if you post a photo here they had the right to use it? I think I remember a couple of people not wanting to post pics after that.

HH - it sounds like your photos would be safer with (cbiii) Ken and Josh than here. I remember this discussion from 2006 and it had a few people riled.

One other thing I remembered this afternoon. I also ran into a woman here in Minnesota at a health club. I thought she looked familiar. She said she had been on the Biggest Loser show - which I had never seen. She did not get far in the show but in the year after the show she lost 100 lbs.

Where I had seen her was in ads for a weight loss product. Her pictures had been downloaded from some weight loss blog and were being used for some product she had nothing to do with. She was not getting paid for her likeness and because there were so few internet guidelines at the time there was nothing she could do about it.

I've never heard from anyone that GW took their photos - GW seems to run a pretty professional business. However, you might want to reconsider what photos you post - unless of course you copyright them. As I said it is just a right click away from anyone that really wants them ........just a thought.

I see you are looking for Salsa. Did Andi Roozekrans live in Minnesota at one time? I called her about 5 years ago about where I could get a piece. I don't recall that she lived in MN when I spoke with her. I think she was in the Pacific Northwest. Anyone know her?

Ken - how is this quest coming along?

Teresa - I got a few more from some folks @ Hosta College over the weekend but I suspect I have less than half to date :( There are at least 30 that do not exist any more. I wonder how many registered hostas no longer exist????

There is a beautiful photo of h. Arlene Mae Savory on Savory's Gardens website. (They had it for sale when I visited last summer and it truly is a beauty!)

Monty and Julie Carlson have a gorgeous picture of their h. Blue Cascade on their website, Northernair Hostas, in the photo gallery. (It is number one on my 2010 hosta lust list.)

Seems there is some misunderstanding about a post I made about rights of pics way earlier in this thread, and I'm sorry if there were bad feelings about that comment. Now, all these weeks later I see the list of needed convention MN fotos is being very well slimmed down, hooray!

I still see H. Karin or is it Karen, but nonetheless, we have 2 of them, both poor performers, here, anyway, which we are sorry about because one of our daughters-in-law has that name and for (albeit) sentimental reasons we'd like to grow a good one, as she's a particularly good one.

We'll be glad to see others good ones of this cultivar. We've seen several other examples of cultivars that just didn't go for us but shined in others gardens that we understand that what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander, and we're O.K. with that.

It IS a shame that the nearest real town to us is Cadillac MI, but we cannot get one of those to go good for us, waaaaa. TeeHee.

Ken - walking around my garden today I discovered signage for Blue my Mind and Bitsy Blue. I remember buying Blue my Mind from Hideko 3-4 years ago......... I don't remember buying Bitsy Blue........... age must be creeping up on me. I must have got it when I visited Savory's in Sept. 2007. Actually there were many signs for hostas I don't remember buying! Records for what's in my garden?? I am not the "Papou" of record keeping! lol

I'm bumping this back to the top of the forum. The pips are barely peaking out here in Minnesota. For those of you in warmer areas, lets help narrow down the list of photos needed.

So how did it work out? Did you find all of the pictures? Did anyone take a picture of the pictures exhibit?

We received 360 out of the 400 hosta pictures we were looking for. Thanks to all those folks who helped out! Mary S. did display boards for each MN hybridizer and also had some of their actual plants on display with the pictures. It was quite the room! Here is one of the boards - Don Dean's.
