The outstanding fact about magnesium is that it is a constituent of chlorophyll, and is essential to the formation of this pigment. As a result, when magnesium is deficient, one of the symptoms commonly shown by plants is chlorosis. Magnesium is also regarded as a carrier of phosphorus in the plant, particularly in connection with the formation of seeds of high oil content, which contain the compound lecithin. The element seems to be very mobile within the plant, and when deficient is apparently transferred from older to younger tissues where it can be re-utilized in the growth processes. This agrees with the observation that signs of magnesium deficiency invariably make their appearance first on the oldest leaves and progress systematically from them towards the youngest ones. its doesnt look fungal to me.

After I plant all of the daylilies I have ordered, I really do need to stay off of the auction. I have gotten rid of quite a few daylilies, and I have several more that are marked to go. I won a lily Phil Korth had on the auction, but it was one of Karol's, not his. The pond will be about four times the size it is now. The current pond will actually be about triple the size it is, and it will connect to a channel that is about seven feet long and three feet deep to another pond a little bigger (and definitely deeper) that the current pond. The heat has been the hold up. You can only stand to be out for a little while in the heat. I will probably work on it a little while tomorrow. Hopefully the rose garden will turn out well. I have roses coming from Heirloom, Vintage, and one, Reine des Violettes, from Antique Rose Emporium. It at least is a two gallon size. A couple of the Vintage ones are one gallon, but all of the others are bands. I am looking forward to planting these roses. My others have done quite well this summer. Year before last, I planted two Wild Blue Yonder roses and I was originally not happpy with them. This year I love them. They are a pretty color, and the scent is sensational. And speaking of scents, I was in the garden yesterday, and suddenly smelled a fantastic fragrance. It was the rose Lady Like. There were about ten blooms on it, and it carried to the path and drew me to it. I cut a couple for the desk vase. The fragrance is as important as the color and shape to me, so I am very happy with the roses. The bench is intended for the butterfly garden, but it will be for both since the projected site is very close to the rose garden. Google "butterfly bench" and you will probably see it. It comes in several colors, is metal, and the butterfly part is the back of it. Of course it will be the same green as everything else in my garden. kay

Don you startled me ! Ummmmm . . . honestly I have never ID'd anything before. I have agreed with others suggestions on different posts and even took a blind stab in the dark (I guessed Fire Opal for something that clearly was not Fire Opal). I remember you posting this picture before for an ID. I should go back and look at the post. Is it blue when it comes up in the spring ? Does it have that waxy coating on the top of the leaf ? That is the first thing I would check. If it isn't blue then it isn't Elegans. With three leaves that is a hard one. Not to mention being big and green doesn't narrow it down much either. Flower color and bloom time might be better indicators for something like this. I'd say give it some more time to mature and then it might be a lot easier. I have four in my garden that I have yet to pitch to everyone since I know they are too immature for ID'ing. I did manage to ID a Francis Williams and June last year in a neighborâÂÂs garden, but he already knew what they were so I was basically testing myself. :p Good luck, Ludi

Texas has had a lot of fires today, especially in East Texas. I track OK wildfires on the OKFIRE page available via the OK Mesonet. For Texas wildfires, I use the TFS's Google Map page. You can click on each flame logo to get details of that fire. In a sad side note, one of the Fire Captains from my DS's fire department arrived home from work this morning to find his own home engulfed in flames. The air here is full of smoke from fires in surrounding counties, but (knock on wood) it has been quiet here today and I am glad.
