Preserves Safety Question

Hello All,

I made watermelon rind preserves yesterday and went by a recipe in the Ball Blue Book. I don't have the recipe with me so I don't remember the exact measurements but the ingredients were watermelon rind, sugar, water, ginger, lemon juice and sliced lemon. I had more rinds than called for in the recipe so I added to the amount of ingredients proportionately. Here is my question --- I didn't think that I would like the taste of ginger so I left that out, and I had trouble getting the syrup thick enough so I added more sugar. Any safety issues with these two changes? I processed in a hot water bath as directed and all of the lids sealed. Thank you in advance.
