A couple things here that I would point out.... Bermuda can be a pain to get going from seed initially... It can take a LONG time to get germination and decent growth... Starting from sod can be much easier... even if you only sod your lot in stripes (So you only buy 1/2 to 1/3 the amount for full coverage).... It will spread to fill in pretty quickly. First - your watering schedule.... Your goal is to keep the top of the seed bed moist.. To that end - you may need to water 5-7 times a day, especially through Florida's HOT weather.... You only need to wet down the soil, though - so maybe only 10-15 minutes each time. Next... you need to keep doing this until your Bermuda is germinated and growing.... Not until you have passed X days... Then.. Freshly germinated Bermuda can be hard to spot - it is REALLY fine and teeny... kinda like teeny green hairs... But... On what to do with all the dead grass clippings... My vote is to just leave it. I have gotten far better germination with a thin layer of grass clippings than on bare dirt. Scalp your lawn to the lowest setting on the mower - and leave the clippings, then spread your seed... The seed will do just fine - and the clippings will help keep the seed bed moist. Just make sure you do use starter fertilizer... Anyway - you may well have more Bermuda than you think you do... Initially, it's really depressing - because the lawn looks like it's just bare dirt with a greenish shadow.... but as you fertilize and mow low - you will likely find that it's there... and it will spread.... The rosary-pea is all over at my central florida place. When I first saw it some years ago I could see that it was a legume and was toying with the idea of cooking and eating it but fortunately I asked on this forum first and was tipped off about its toxicity. I did some reading back then and learned that it is native to parts of southeast asia and was occasionally used as a famine-food, apparently if cooked properly and not eaten too much it can be digested (obviously I don't know whether this is valid or not). Raw it has been know to kill people, apparently. However the seeds are so hard that I think a person would nearly break their teeth trying to crack the seeds, the whole seed apparently will pass through undigested.

Hey...just a quick warning. Brassicas aren't self-incompatible so I'd rethink the plan for the beds. You might consider emasculating and hand-pollenating to make sure you get the crosses you want.

Not a Florida grower so not sure how much help this will be but from reading all the past discussions here (search 'Florida') on growing tomatoes there it seems the planting time is what is crucial, not the variety. In other words you can grow just about any kind you want if you get them planted out by late February to early March to beat the onset of the heat. It appears from what the other Florida growers have said that middle to late May puts an end to your production if the weather follows its normal patterns. Then you have a second fall growing season starting in September. In that season it seems to be the so-called "early" varieties (60 day) that work the best. Have to talked with your local county extension service about planting times? They can be a wealth of info on both when to plant and which ones work best. And check out the Florida Gardening forum here too for info on which varieties grow best for your neighbors. They have lots of tomato discussions going over there.
