Seedling "Valentine Sweetheart" was the only daylily blooming here today.

Others that still have buds are Last Chance for Romance, Final Touch, and Happy Returns. Happy Labor Day!

Beautiful color on that one! Just lovely....I'd grow that one in a heartbeat. Have you described any of its stats before?

From my window, I see a bud on a lost-label red and blooms on EVIDENCE OF ALIENS (Norris 07), FRANS HALS (Flory 55), EAGER TO PLEASE (Hanson 02; two blooms open) + I know that WESTBOURNE LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT (Meadows 2011) has blooms. I also have a rebloom scape w/ blooms on Polston's 2011 PASTOR Z (but not today) and two rebloom scapes still developing on LIBERTY AND JUSTICE (Murphy 06). There may be others - I've been yanking weeds all day, and I'm too tired to go back outside and check.

It sounds like you have some nice ones still blooming. My seedling is Shores of Time X Rosy Rhino. It has a bloom than ranges from 6 inches to 5.5 inches on 24 inch scapes. So far I've only got 8-9 buds per scape, but it's growing in part shade in a really crowded seedling bed. This seedling has been a terrific rebloomer both years it has bloomed.I have 3 of 5 fans reblooming now. It needs to be moved into full sun. Unfortunately I'm having trouble preparing new beds because of temps in the mid 90s and heat indices in the hundreds or rain. If I could just get a couple of cooler dry days...

Yes, some azaleas do that here in Texas (I am in Hurst). The Encore series definitely will rebloom at around this time (some of mine started blooming several weeks ago). Selected non-Encores will do that as well; Rose Queen, Red Ruffles, Bloomin' Again, Doug's Delight, Illusion and Opal have been reported to rebloom again. Reblooming is a function of several factors such as your geographical location (being in the South helps), the cultivar itself and the weather. I have noticed a propensity for reblooming when temps go down from the 100's back to the low 90's or 80's. They obviously will require shade here, 2-3" acidic mulch, extra watering this part of the summer and loads of acidic soil to replace our clay alkaline soil. Since the roots are on the top 4" of soil, I either hand water in the mornings between June-Sept or set up my irrigation to go off for 15-20 minutes on those days when the twice weekly irrigation program is not going off. Awesome job! When you think of all the days of Labor it is to relocate,you really get an appreciation for all the extra work you have done making your house look like a home-that YOU live in! Not a nice way for your day to start ! Sorry....and one mess always leads to another, with all that laundry, darn ! My husband wouldnt be of much help folding clothes either but he might be able to fix the pipes ? This must be why today is called Labor Day !! I agree with dotmom, he at least owes you a deluxe dinner at a fancy restaurant tonight !!!

That is a stunning pink seedling Debra! I can definitely see it's parents in it. What a wonderful treat for Labor Day. I hope you will keep us up to date next year on it's progress and lots more pics of it.

Its beautiful, Debra. Love that bright Pink. I have 2 blooming today, LAST REWARD is still blooming, but,i think it had its last bloom today. and BUTTERED POPCORN is blooming.Its been very hot here, too.

That one is really lovely, Debra. I always like the darker pink with the lighter center. Having that blooming would be enough to make me happy.

How old is that seedling Debra? I really hope it keeps that lovely color, & blooming this late, really a great flower. I remember you said you were going to move it & see if it improved its bud count. What kind of bud count does it have?

Nancy - Grown in part shade the seedling has a bud count of only 8-9. The neighbor's trees have grown taller and wider, and most of my seedling bed is shaded now. When I started these plants three years ago, the bed got nine hours of sun a day. The seedling is a three year old that bloomed for the first time last year. I don't know if I'll be able to prepare the new beds for selected seedlings. I fell about 10 days ago, wounding my elbow in several ways. I probably won't have full use of my right arm for another couple of weeks.
