New, new, new today (pictures)

Well, they may not be the fanciest of flowers but I got blooms today on two of my new Olallie daylilies.

Here is BRIDAL LILAC

Again

This is RR RED. I was so suprised when I saw this bloom as I thought it was really beautiful.

Although neither are "fancy", they are both very pretty, and I can see them being stunning in a clump. Looks like RR Red at least will still be giving you quite a show this fall for a being a newbie.

Actually, I was very pleased to see them. Its sept, can't be too pickey.

Its raining pretty hard today and I just know there are flowers open today as they looked like it was going to be so yesterday. Can't do anything about it. Well, maybe I am wrong and they will open tomorrow.

it's like any other display - -clothing with all the 'right' pieces & accessories that you may not want/to be able/interested to buy... -furniture, again with all the right accessories... -you buy just one or very few-and it doesn't look the same! But it's great for ideas/inspiration, and definitely helps the sales. And you just may be able to replicate over time...

Liza, I think you'll love China Doll, particularly because of how many blooms it puts on...prolific doesn't do it justice. Poochella, in fact I did hope that the granite mulch might prolong the season a little due to the heat, and/or promote better growth. I have my fingers crossed that it won't get too hot. I also didn't want stuff that would grow weeds, as has been my experience with organic mulches. FYI, it is supposed to get black after a few rains. Penerosa, there are certainly similarities, but...I don't really think it looks like a waterlily. I could be wrong, but I think yours is a Formal Decorative. China Doll is 4" diameter on a 18-24" bush, what size is yours? Cheers, Russ

Debra, those are Red Vinca,, they are annuals, and a few purple verbena is mixed in it too but cant see them hardly any more. Mantis,I wouldn't dream of sending this heat your way, but, I wish some cooler tempsw ould come this way.temp was 96 here today but felt like 100. weather man said,and I don't doubt it for a second Nancy,z6 secret friend has been here I think 4 years and hasn't multiplied at all here, plan to repot it in a differen t potting mix about sept, and see if it will do better next season.When I moved,I dug itup and pottd it with the soil it was in, so maybe it will do batter next year, I had poor soil where it was at, and the soil he r e is worse.cant make a hole in this soil with a hatchet, as I tried that,

Carol- better fragrance LEH or BG?? Sheesh. I don’t know. They both smell great. It’s still early on for our plants, but I think I’d personally go with Blue Girl. Today. LOL That could totally change tomorrow! ;-) OTOH LEH has LOTS more buds and blooms than Blue Girl, so on the whole is more fragrant. I also like the foliage on LEH better. Blue Girl opened some more today and it is a lovely bloom. I tend to like more of the cupped/rounded blooms, things like LEH, but BG makes my heart happy. I’ll take another picture of it when I get home today (I’m checking in on the grand dogs right now). Kristine- I’m so with you on the rodents. They are awful and have cost us a LOT of $$ and aggravation the last few years. And then they start eating our roses? Grrrr. Although I’d never get Al to move to Canada. He had to travel there for work for a few days last month. Was NOT pleased to see snow on the ground still. Total Florida boy. LOL oh!! Our Florentina is blooming. Eeeee! Knock me over with a feather. I had told Al we wouldn’t have any blooms this year either. He went and looked close at it a few weeks ago and said “oh Shan! guess whaaaaat?!”. We had moved it out of the whiskey barrel it was in last year to a spot it apparently reeeeally likes on the fence. It’s been growing like crazy, but I was so surprised by buds. We only got it from Heirloom spring 2017. I’ll get a picture of it too. It’s such a fantastic honest to goodness real red red. Can’t wait to smell it too. :-)

They're really nice. Although less fancy flowers, they are elegant and refreshing. I am actually looking to add diploids and less fancy flowers to provide breathing space and balance from the grab of the stunners.

I don't post a lot but I had a little time today between planting daylily seed and watering my daylily beds so I thought I would tell you that almost any daylily is pleasing to the eye. Yours are nice. I know from the different daylily sites that a lot of the growers destroy most of the seedlings that they don't intend to register. I only raise between 300 and 500 seedlings per year but I can't seem to throw away any of them. Some of them don't turn out to my expectations but there is most always a neighbor or friend that will take them and then they get hooked on them too. I am not selling daylilies but if you need any more ridaught daylily farm has a very good sale right now. A lot of their most pretty daylilies ( the Spacecoast series among many others) are as low as $10.00 for 4 fans. A great buy. Jennifer

Rita, nice to see you are still getting blooms. I think my last flower on Going Bananas went off yesterday. But I still have some rebloom on Earlene Garber. She put up two more new scapes. Blooming machine for her first year! Starting to get sad though... I don't see any more scapes. Now that we are cooling off and getting rain, maybe our second growth season will come on. (Crossing fingers).

I happen to like Happy Returns, which is currently blooming
on 2 rebloom scapes. Today, I was looking around and this
plant has 3 more rebloom scapes, all loaded with buds.

I am pleased.

From what I read about GOING BANANAS it is supposed to be an improved version of HAPPY RETURNS just like FOREVEVER STELLA is supposed to be an improved version of STELLA.

In september, certain almost any daylily bloom is great to have.
