Beautiful blooms for so late in the year!! Somehow a scape on my Ballerina Beautiful escaped the cut down when it came from Maryott's... so, looks like I'll get some miracle blooms too!! :o)
They look really good. Any blooms this time of year are just to be cherished. Plus I see some buds so looks like your will be having more blooms to come.
Very pretty! Now I am even more excited about my Coquina Key... just put in the ground two weeks ago! I have one scape on a new Maryotts plant, but am not holding out a lot of hope for actually seeing it this year.
This is the first time I get to see a Darla flower, and it was much better than I thought. It is a 1999 intro, and it almost looks like a more recent one. And as a bonus, according to the hybridizers' notes, it has provided a lot of wonderful offsprings. Great plant habits, opens up very nicely, tall and sturdy scapes...
Julia, I wasn't expecting a bloom either, since Darla was planted only on August 15th. But Bill Maryott's plants are not only just blooming, but increasing also. Almost all of them are now 4 or 5-fan mini clumps.
Coquina Key was likewise planted on August 15th and it is now a 6-fan plant (I probably received 4 fans. I think the prolif that was close to ground where I mounded the soil also grew). It also has a second scape coming up!
So many other Bill Maryott plants, just recently planted, have bloomed or have current scapes, too. I can not speak highly enough of plants from Bill's plants, or of his generosity.
I hope that the plants will have the chance to complete this gift bloom period...they provide such feeling of... happiness!
I got DA from Maryotts in August also, but mine hasn't bloomed. In fact it really doesn't look like it will make it. All the rest from Maryotts are doing great though, & several bloomed. I love Maryotts!
I got COQUINA KEY last year from Maryotts. I don't remember it blooming and moved it up to the plateau this august. Like everyone else, I just love Maryotts. Bill makes each and every customer feel special, and the bonuses can not be beat.
Ditto on Maryott's! I've got scapes too and just posted a picture of Lord of Riches. I love your Darla Anita and it looks like it's got another big bud just ready to open!
I am so thankful that I do not have to wait another season to see the blooms on the plants. The Darla Anita did have another bloom the next day, which I tried to hybridize with frozen pollen from Best in Class :)
Yesterday, I found a scape each on Mort Morss and Popcorn Pete. What a gift!
Also, today is the last day for the season for ordering at Maryott's. How I wish I have a bigger yard...
CK does exibit some sculpting...here's a photo of it taken in my garden this season. {{gwi:650684}} and another from last season on a rebloom scape. {{gwi:655005}} You can see the sculpting in both. What amazes me is the difference in color. I took several photos of different blooms on different days, and it was a different shade of color in almost every one of them. Jan
uroboros5 you may just get some nice sculpting in your seedlings....especially since they have scuplting in both parents. Here's a photo of a CK seedling of mine crossed with Jerry Nettles. You can see some scuplting in it also. {{gwi:698102}} Jan
This is the gene stock I will be starting with. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
