WOW!!!! You really put in a days work if you planted all of that.But,I bet it will really be some thing to see, come next spring and summer.

CTC ~ I'll send you half of mine! Even after potting all those DLs, I still have aout 60 or so pots left, not including the ones under the ones that are full! Sun is just starting to come up. I'll take some pics. :)

Oh my gosh, you really are a trooper. I don't know how you could possibly get all those planted in one day. I am really, really impressed. And then it is such a long list I am thinking you planted all your daylilies but you say you have about 200 more to plant. My gosh your pot getto must be larger than large!

Have you checked out garden centers and nurseries for their unwanted pots? Around here, I can get more pots than I'd know what to do with. One garden center within about a 12-minute drive from my house has two enormous bins in its parking lot in which people can leave (or take) pots. There's also a nearby nursery that has absolutely massive numbers of pots, mostly gallon-sized and larger, all for the taking.

I have lots of space here to store pots and such cause I have a huge yard and garage too! I keep all the pots from plants I purchase and recycle them. I also use anything that I can plant a seedling in such as yogurt containers, dog buscuit containers, ice cream pails, bleach bottles, fabric softeners bottles ect ect. My husband is usually my official hole poker in anything plastic I can find. He has learned to not throw anything out if I can plant in it! :)

CTC ~ I would imagine you would like at least something that doesn't have Milk Bone written on the side of your pots though. Mine are very temporary and in the back yard so they are not on display

Out to the garden again only this time to take pics of my pot ghetto, as you guys call it. :) My whole yard looks like a ghetto lately!

Good Job! Having a bed to put them in is an uplifting thing. Can't wait to see pictures.

Ok I am still not quite finished the one front bed but this is it so far.

The south side of the front yard not finished being dug yet. My DH is getting tired and sore and I'm sure we can see why! :0

This garden will be filled with DLs and iris with a few heucheras, sedum, lilies and spring bulbs thrown in.

This yard is very old but very spacious so most of it I have just planted as a holding space until I plan my gardens. The house will have to come down so I don't want to do any planning yet or maybe I will move everything to a new place. ??? The back yard is about 50% garden area as well. :)

Oh my gosh. So many garden beds going it and still to be done. Those iris in picture one and two are really close together. And daylilies look really close to the iris. But all the plants look nice and green and happy in their new homes.

They are all about a foot apart and the back part of the bed was planted last fall. As I've mentioned, mostly just holding beds till we decide what we are going to do with this old house. It will be nice to have nice mature plants to move into planned gardens.;)

That is going to be a lot of moving. But it is nice when you have clumps of dayliles ready instead of just small plants. I don't evevy all the work you have left to do!

I pace myself pretty good and I am retired now so the dogs and I enjoy hangin out around here. I like the fall weather much better. No mosquitos! And my husband does the heavy work for me. :)

I sure hope thr, i Bet it will all look mighty pretty next summee hubby is not digging all of that with a shovel. A tiller is needed for thst much digging.it should look really pretty next summer.

You poor DH he must really love you. He is doing a nice job with the beds. Mine would have broke out the tiller and let me sift through the dirt to get out all the grass and weeds. So I don't ask for his help lol

We'd never get a tiller through this lawn! I'd thought about RU to kill the roots but he says just leave it. DH has been working at it slowly. He likes to feel like he is doing something to help or at least feel a part of. If or when we move, I will pay someone else to dig my new beds! I might have to fight him on that one though! :)

Wow. It looks like both you & hubby are working hard, but those gardens are going to be beautiful next year. I can't believe you plan to move them all again. What a lot of work! But it will be very rewarding once you have everything the way you want it and the plants will have had time to mature. Can't wait to see pics.

Casey ~ I think I see it as another patchwork quilt or a new painting. I am far more an artist than a gardener which is probably why I am always zone pushing. I love comfort and color and I like to see that everywhere. I hope I live long enough to see the outcome of my hard work. And long enough to use all my fabric too! :) I always share even if it is only pictures!

OMG Honalee, I feel so small time with my "Big Dig" redo of all my beds compared to what you and your DH are doing now and what is ahead of you. To do all this work and know it is temporary, Ouch. I have to do all the work myself. I put heavy cardboard appliance boxes down at the begining of the summer to kill the grass, and set the potted up DLs on top for the 2 new beds. Digging them now as you read on my thread on the Cottage Garden forum. Done the lift the sod thing in the past, I sympathize with your poor DH. Are you having to amend the soil too? All the best to you both.

Elizabeth ~ It is a lot of work but I guess that is why the outcome is so awesome. I didn't enjoy all the days I was pregnant either but I sure produced a masterpiece! That masterpiece is getting about a dozen of these daylilies and a few more irises as well!

I have ammended the soil with top soil, alfalfa pellets, peat moss, and compost/manure. Very few of the plantings are going straight in, bare root. I pot up pretty much everything for a bit before I plant. You win some, you lose some. "You can bury a lot of troubles by digging in the dirt". Thanks for the warm wishes! :)

great garden spaces, I must say that I know that I really enjoy the planting, and digging part of gardening, don't know what that is, but I love your expression about that you bury troubles...... Great job you both did!! I wish I had all that space to dig more!

Thanks Cindy. This yard is old and grouchy but it is big and the house is small. I would have the whole thing in flowers if I could! Haven't planted anything that I can't move easily since I don't know what we are going to do with the house when Dad goes. I'm just enjoying the space and the memories in the house I grew up in. :)
