Looks like you've got some real beauties there,Ken! Your fuzzy pic was probably caused by getting inside of your minimum focusing range. All camera lenses have a minimum focusing distance. Unfortunately,you can't see that with some cameras! Phil

Indian Ripple is awesome and I bet it's an eyecatcher in the garden too. Walter Jablonski probably doesn't get the attention that IR does, but you're so right about the late bloomers. Maybe they know they can't compete with the others so they wait a little longer to make their appearance:) Then they can really shine! Vickie

Rita, I don't know why that petal doesn't open up. Maybe it will later. The prples seem to be favorites with most folks... Jean, I'm so glad you like them. This is the second bloom year for all of them except the white spuf.. Nancy, i was really fortunate this year with the seedlings. I guess the rain did it for me but they really are pretty in the patch... Michelle, give me another year to see how they do and it maybe be able to be divided. Not now though because I want them to have a good start. I was going to google it after asking here.. Thank you all, very much....Ellie

All keepers, Jan! Congrats on the great crosses. I'm in the process of watching many of my seedlings start to bloom from one and two years ago when I first set the babies in the garden. I lost a lot of the parent names, because the "permanent" ink was NOT permanent. I learned my lesson, and from now on will use a China marker, or a more permanent sticky Brother label. Great photos! That is a LOT of nice looking seedlings!

My absolute fav is the one in the second photo behind the bigger Sea Prize seedling on the right. It looks like a white center with a blue/green edge.

Also, same photo, very back row center looks like it is blue and creamy streaks - that looks like a fantastic baby!

And ken... if you are culling any of them let me know - I think I could give the rejects a good home! LOLOLOL!

Nice looking seedlings Ken. It will really be interesting to watch them reach maturity. I like the looks of Swoosh Kenny. Actually I like them all. Keep us posted when they get to the garden. Nice varigated lot! Congrats.

ken, they look GREAT! I don't know if you remember me commenting about the ones w/ "leaves like lily pads" when they were wee-bitty babies but that looks like the more mature version of what I was ooh-ing and ahh-ing over. They are awesome!

That montana one is a beauty. Montanas are my favorite anyway so I'm always excited to see something w/ that blood!

You have some beauties there!

lights... 2 standard shop lights in a fixture with a big reflector .... 2 more in a fixture with a very small reflector ... kept about 2 to 3 inches from the plants... on 16 hours off 8 hours.. with two off/on cycles during the dark time .... makes them think the lights are on 24 hours.. or so the theory goes ...

I know hosta people say to leave the lights on 24/7 but what makes a hosta different from other plants that they have different needs regarding food production. Plants make food during light hours and eat the food during dark hours. Other plants cannot efficiently utilize the food unless they get the required darkness. What makes hosta different?

For two years I alternated between the 24/7 lights and the 16/8 lights and saw no difference between growth rates so this year they get 16/8. My electric bill is happier.
