Wow, maid, that's incredible growth and a very beautiful hoya! That plant will be very impressive when covered with flower clusters!

Maid, your carnosa looks so happy! I have two pots of it, one hanging and one sitting. The setting pot looks similar to yours as I have it growing on a trellis. Where did you get yours? What size is it? Keep your fingers crossed for blooms!

Mike, I am so anxiously awaiting those *flower clusters*. . . unfortunatley, there is no sign of any so far. . . I moved it for the photo shoot, it usually sits in my kitchen window (facing due west) where I can watch it on a daily basis. . . and believe me I do. . .at least 50 times a day. . . :)

Brad, thanks. At the risk of tooting my own horn, I happen to agree with you. . . it does look happy. . . 'cept no flowers. . . . I took a few cuttings from a lady I clean for, which will be 2 years this June. If I were to guess I'd say it's about 3' tall. If I remember right the trellis it's on is about that, so ya 3'. But if I were to untwine (is that a word) it, it would be waaaaaay longer than that.

The strange thing is, the very top of it sits behind a woven shade so the light it gets up there is very filtered. The rest of the plant has full eastern exposure and hasn't quite filled out like the top has. I think it will be filled out in no time tho, it has done so much this past 5 months. . . now if it'd just bloom. . . .

I was reading some old posts on here today and came across one of a H. carnosa that looked a lot like mine (growing on a trellis and nice and tall) but it was twice as wide as mine, so I'm hoping mine will get *fat* too. . . :)

If the plant is only about 2 years old it could be another year or two before you see flowers. How large is the pot that the plant growing in? H. carnosa loves to be potbound and the plant will usually not flower until it is potbound. If the plant is in a big pot, it may be a few years before enough roots have been produced to fill the pot. Once that happens, the plant should bloom.

Yes, Mike. . . I remember reading that they aren't early bloomers. And if I have to wait for 2 more years. . . well. . . I guess it will happen when it's ready. In the meantime I'll just watch it get bigger and bigger.

I just measured the pot. I couldn't get a true reading, as the plant is so thick at the base, but its between 6 1/2 and 7".

I have no idea how big the roots are. The first photo above (planted with the compacta) is the same pot it is in now and has been from the biginning. I removed the compacta and left the carnosa in place, so I didn't have a look at the roots.

I am going to give it a shot of super thrive this spring, just to see what happens. Who knows, maybe it will rev up and bloom.

What ever you are doing your doing it right! Your cuttings have truly become a beautiful healthy plant. If you notice any bare vines develop I bet that is where you will see your first peduncles form. All of my Hoya carnosas have behaved ths way and some flowered while still quite small.

Amazing Debi!! That is some strong growth you've had. They have tripled in size. You're def. doing something right and they are letting you know it. Soon the flowers will come. Good luck! Thanks for sharing.

That is one happy plant, Debi!! With a western exposure, you should see blooms soon. Give it a bloom boost fertilizer around March and again in May and that may just give it the nudge it needs...

Patrick, I really don't know what type of carnosa it is. Several months ago I posted a pic of a strange leaf node it had. There were two leaves that came out pink, not maroon like a lot of the new leaves it gets. These were baby pink. And on the same node was a leaf that had/has a white edge, still. The common opinion was it may be a KP that reverted to solid green. That hasn't been verified tho.

So, the answer is I don't know what kind it is. I can send you some cuttings from the mamma plant, they don't look anything like this plant tho. The mamma plant is grossly neglected. But she makes nice babies... :) LMK.

LOL Kelly, I have some that need to take lessons from this carnosa.

The plant in the second picture is an epi (I think) I don't know the real name, but I call it a drunkards dream. It's a lot bigger now too. It just got done blooming. It gets the sweetest tiny bright yellow flowers. I got it as a small cutting from the same lady I got the Carnosa from. Having this one bloom as well as my african violets, keeps me satisfied for now. . . til my hoyas bloom. :)

Thanks Maid for the offer...but, I'll pass...just in case it's KP...not one of my favorites. But, I'm doubting it's KP if you have a leaf with white margins, that sounds more like KQ, but KQ gets pink or red new leaves...not maroon. Maybe you have a very rare and exotic cultivar...I'm thinking of millions of dollars from you selling on Ebay...just come up with some exotic new name...it works everytime for so many other sellers...why not with you!!
