I will be sending Karol an order in the next few days. I do believe you were the one who gave the link to Springwood, and as soon as I visited it, I was hooked. I love her flowers. Love them! I have got to have several of them. So...I will order them, and plant them, and enjoy them.

She does not ship in the fall. You will have to wait until spring to get them. And yes, it was my fault that you found Springwood :-))

If you get persuaded to order from Victorian Gardens you must get Belle Cook. It was hybridized by the late Malcolm Brooker.

I have already placed an order for a daylily I will be getting in spring: Moonlight Sail. I am also hoping to pick up Karol Emmerich's Fear Not from a local grower/hybridizer. Aside from those two I have no plans yet.

Rita - I was amazed that one of my Going Bananas is putting up yet ANOTHER scape. I think it will help extend your season for sure!! Another late that bloomed later and rebloomed well for me is Very Berry Ice.

I got my first Brooker on the LA to arrive this fall - Visual Arrest. I am so excited. There are at least two others that I want BAD! Sweet Isabella and Reach For The Sky top my list.

I am on the waiting list from last year for SWEET ISABELLA. I have SIMMERING RED SATIN new this spring.

I wish I could find GOING BANANAS. I would deffinately buy it!

Since I don't have endless room I am spending time thinking about what I want out of my daylily gardens. The answer of course is more bloom. Specificly a longer season of bloom.

My favorite things to do this summer was to go out each day and take a nice long tour around the garden and see what daylilies were blooming for that day. Then I would go back and get my camera and take pictures. There was so much going on at peak bloom that I realize there are daylilies here that I never did get any shots of this summer. So really of course there are ALWAYS more daylilies I want but I do not NEED more bloom during peak time, I have plenty.

Now August is traditionally a month that not that much goes on in the garden. I think my Blackeyed Susans used to bloom in August but I can't remember as I don't have anymore since my redo to put in roses and daylilies. Anyway when the blooms and picture taking came to an end at the beginning of August, I hated it and thinking this is not good.

Before daylilies August was the summer slump in terms of blooms and flowers but I didn't really much care. Now I have daylilies and come August I miss the blooms in the August garden. Remember peak bloom here is traditionally 1st-2nd week in July.

So the direction in need to go in is both more rebloom and more late bloomers. It just seems so dull around here without those daylily blooms. Plus having taken lots of pictures this July, I realize that I really liked taking pictures of my daylilies and posting them.

I'll send ya some Bananas!!

Oh crap! I just ordered them.

I was thinking after I wrote this post that just because my "usual" places that I like to buy from don't have GOING BANANAS doesn't mean I couldn't find a good place that has it. So I went on an internet search and the very first one was the best place and had it in pots for immediate shipping. I did look thru the next three pages of listings but went back to the first and ordered.

I ordered from GARDEN CROSSINGS in Michigan. My pots of GOING BANANAS ship Monday. I have the perfect spot of them too.

Rita - you want some late blooming ones - I would like to
recommend AUGUST ORANGE, are you familiar with it? Mine had its first flower of the season on 7-30-08---it is still
blooming and this one pic will show quite a few buds left.

Last year, it bloomed way into September. It has a solid
color that doesn't fail in lousy weather. These picture show the true color. It is 30-36 inches tall, increases
nicely and generally is an all around good plant.

I love the pictures of your gardens, keep up the good work.

kay- It will just give you a long time to add to your springwoods garden order. I know it took me a very long time to decide on my choices as my list was a yard long. And I bought 14 of them so its not as if I only got afew but had such a difficult time deciding which to cross off the list. This fall I will be ordering more Emmerich intros and I am sure that those plants that I didn't get will be back on this list.

Kay-phal - Thank you for your suggestion of a late bloomer. I first looked it up on Tinkers and what came up looks nothing like your daylily, wider pedals and much more orange. I did a general search and found what might be it with not such a great picture. Both list it as mid late. Maybe not going to bloom late enough for me here but I will deffinately keep it in mind.

Looks like I am going to have some late blooms.My Buttered Popcorn has 3 big fat scapes up on it.They look like stair steps,One is about a foot tall,and one maybe 10 inches and th eother one about 8 inches tall.Was raining so didn't check any others for rebloom scapes....

You are so right. It will also give me time to forget how much I spent this year, and , more importantly, give me time to create a space that is right for Karol's. They are so gorgeous. I think Isle of Patmos is my absolute favorite, but there are least seven that are not too far behind.

I ordered a couple of hers from Maryott's on the BOGO. Not a beg deal, but nice to get.

Hi, Rita..For late bloomers have you looked at the Reckamp/Klehm group? I grow a number of them and they bloom later. While a lot of the Reckamps have similar coloring, they are really beautiful. Check out Songsparrow. Garden Symphony is new here this here and is just stunning. Techny Peach Lace is a good all around plant and shows teeth here....Klehms' Good Old Rock & Roll is just a handsome solid red....see if you like them..cheers, lloyd

Rita - I looked at Tinkers for this one and was SHOCKED. It is nothing like mine, golly, I don't know what to say---frankly, I like mine better.

I will also look around. I will keep mine--I don't like that other one.

No, I don't have much in the Reckamp/Klehm group. I did get a bonus daylily from Song Sparrow both last year and this year when I bought shrubs. Can't find last years so not sure if it died over the winter or what. But I need them to be really LATE and I find lots of daylilies supposed to be late are not that much late.

Kay-phal - I don't see how that picture they have at Tinkers cound be the same daylily.

Rita - You need some more northern lates that really bloom late. I second the vote for Reckamp-Klehms. Dan Trimmer hybridized the lates AUTUMN JEWELS and AUGUST FROST when he lived on Long Island. They should really be late for you, since they were born where you are. And you've got to add some of Curt Hanson's ML and lates. I'm very partial to WAVES BECOME WINGS. His CRINTONIC GARDENS is my favorite northern site. All of his plants are real performers, although few of them rebloom.

Debra- I agree, I do need lates and extra lates. If I had daylilies blooming in August here, things would be much better. Am working on it!

August Frost is an excellent suggestion. I have LIME FROST which is registered as late but not and blooms at the regular bloom time here. Didn't know that about them being hybridized on Long Island.

I have looked at daylilies at Citronic Gardens but never bought any. Have never looked for late bloomers though.
