How do I post a picture?

I have a plant that I need help ID-ing but I can't figure out how to post a picture on this forum...help please!

Hi c9. Here is a link to a thread with instructions. Check near the bottom of the thread. I believe there are updated instructions. Hope this helps!

Okay, so I guess my question is, how do I post a photo if I don't use any online photo services such as photobucket?

I've done this on the GW Kitchens forum, and you can post pictures in the Gallery pages and then link over to them from the Discussions page. But there isn't a Gallery for FL Gardening (maybe there should be!)

First upload pics to a photo-hosting site like Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, etc. while viewing the pic there, you will find a path to the HTML CODE for that picture. The path usually starts with the link, "Share." Once you locate the code, copy and then paste into your message. Can paste code for multiple pictures. Watch that you do not accidentally get the code for thumbnails or small pictures. Once you paste the code, you will see picture(s) in the message preview (to know if you got it right.)

Ok, here is how I do it. First, upload your pics to a on-line host (I use photobucket). Then highlight the TAG line (be sure you get the entire line) and right click "copy". Next, return to your message thread and you can either right click "paste" in the body of the post (the picture will show up in the message) or in the Optional Link URL line (it will show up as a link). Hi Megpie77, If you read the "New to Garden Web" link there are some specific directions to follow. Once you read and practice a few times you will be uploading all the time. I pasted below what is on the link. -boxerpups Posting a picture from your photo hosting account (e.g., PhotoBucket) First, where are your pictures? If on your computer only, you'll need to upload them somewhere on the web for the rest of us to see them. I upload pictures to PhotoBucket. Open an account w/PhotoBucket or other photo hosting site. Take a picture using a digital camera (or film camera but get them on disk when they're developed) Resize your pics so they're approx 400x300 (resize keeping the same proportions so they don't get distorted...i.e., don't specify a specific size, use %-ages or similar) Upload your pictures to your photo account Find the label that contains the link to the picture (In PhotoBucket, it's the box labeled "HTML Code") Copy that link and paste it into the "Message" box of a post. When you "Preview" your message, you'll see the picture. Posting a picture from somewhere other than your Photo hosting account Copy the following into the "Message" box where you want the picture to be: Next, replace the http://www.XXX/image.jpg with the address of the image. You can't post without using an online service.

We've been asking for a gallery page for quite sometime, but it hasn't happened yet!

Yes, please go to the Suggestions page, find the link about a Florida Gallery and add your comments! One day maybe they'll listen to the request.

Photobucket is free and easy. Takes only minutes to set up an account and upload photos. Why not use it? iVillage and other sites that include photos don't have room to store actual photos from all members, so what gets posted is a link to another site where your photo is stored.

Now that I know how to post a picture, how do I shrink it so that it doesn't come out so big? I'm using photobucket.

In photobucket, click on the picture, then on 'edit'. It will let you change the size. Remember though that you can go smaller but you can't make it bigger again! So go slow and try it one size at a time. Once you've posted a picture you can go back and edit the size down and anywhere you posted it will reflect the change.

When uploading new pictures you can set the maximum size so you don't get a bunch that are too large to post. Just check the upload screen and you'll see the size box.

Put your photos in Photobucket at 480 x 640. That works great for me.

HELP, please. I am trying to upload some photos to Photobucket and it keeps failing. I have posted a few pictures already but I can't seem to do it this time.

Happy, I can't imagine why you can't upload photos once you have a photobucket account set up. If you've successfully put photos there in the past then it sounds like the problem must be with them. Contact photobucket and let them know what's happening.
