Questions re Colocasia Royal Hawaiian
Comments (7)Looks like black coral or diamindhead, the blush blooms are pretty neat! You've done well to a flower in one season. It would likely be hardy in your area but not in a pot, they need to be well established in the ground early in the season to really be hardy. Just stop watering as it cools off, by the time night lows are near 50 you will notice your plant falling apart, yellowing and not growing, clean its leaves off, drag it in and stash it in a garage or closet, basement or under the sink, and just forget it til warm weather is here, I start a month before last frost, that way they break dormancy and are ready to go when it's time to get em in the ground! Here's my diamondhead, planted with Elena, or red eye gecko, I'm not 100% sure. I started with one small tuber in may 2012, this year I propagated it out into 47 plants! Some are bigger than the pictured plant which is over 4'...See Moreis there a cutting fairy around?
Comments (9)actually GG, we still have not renovated the attic into a grow room... i had to hang hooks in almost every available window this winter to make sure they had a place to live... i actually quite liked it! i enjoyed still having them all around me, and i think they liked it too! cpawl- i dont mind your suggestion at all! ive tried to find quite a few different things to try and make money from home, from trying to sell baby blankets and afghans that i crocheted to selling and trading plant hangers i made... up until bought our house i even had the odd and end babysitting job, but now we live a little over half and hour from all family and everyone we grew up around, which doesent seem to far unless you only have one car like we do, and my husband works full time... ive always been the kind of person who had a really hard time opening up and talking to anyone, so i have very few friends... the friends i do have are almost all guys because i met them when they were friends of my husband and we just all became friends... i think thats why i like plants so much is because they cant judge you or reject you... if you love them they show you love back by growing and blooming. i think thats also why i like these forums so much, i can talk and not have to be nervous or talk to anyone face to face. so it feels like i have some friends for a while when i visit the forums... caring for plants is one of the only pure joys that i have that is still part of just me (if that makes sense). i loved plants and gardening before i met my husband, before we became a team and had kids, its one of the only things that still truely makes me who i am... i love my kids husband so much but sometimes i need a hour or so away from them, so that i can have a little peace and quiet and enjoy my plants. they are like meditation for me, they make me zen... sorry i was rambling, its hard when you have no one to talk to because your husband is at work until 12:30 at night and my kids (4 and 2) are not the best conversationalists... i just need to rant and vent every once in a while... thanks for listening to me!...See MoreWhat is your most FAVORITE fragrant smelling Hoya you love?
Comments (78)Hello all! I almost forgot about this thread. Thanks . Unfortunatly I lost this plant!! It fried in my greenhouse by accident. It fell behind a shelf and I never noticed until it was completely dead cleaning it up this past summer. I will forever miss this one. I am hoping to purchase another or some way get a cutting soon. It was one of my favorite and Greedyghost got the name right. if anyone knows a seller or a person willing to share, please let me know. Hopefully everyone is doing well) The description of the others here and the pictures are very nice. Thank you. Richard, it's the name that Greedyghost said shortly after I posted a pic of it. Comments (4)Thank you for the prelim ID pubicalyx ... That's correct in terms of the leaf. Denise is right in terms of mine having far less variegation than hers. Mine is just minutely speckled. As far as I know, the blooms are similar to those of "Pink Silver." We'll see. Well it IS growing, just not as fast in comparison to my Australis. It was a rootless cutting, so I imagine it needed time to adjust. Substrate is very loose and fast-draining ... It's what I use for my adeniums, plumeria, orchid cactus cultivars. I have basically adopted it for all my C&S because it doesn't remain excessively wet and allows the roots to move and breathe. Every climate and growing culture is different and this substrate works very well for me here. Le's wait until it blooms and I'll post pictures of it in bloom. Then we can do a better job of IDing it. Thanks for your help. Maria Elena...See Morelanglin
