Wet but I still love'em - Tuesday pics

It has been raining off and on since yesterday. Good for the plants but bad for gardening.

Here are a couple of pics of wet blooms.

JOSHUA SLOCUM - did I tell you I love this one?;-).

PRINCETON EYE GLOW - Always starts blooming in August here.

The dead scapes behind it are not part of this cultivar but others that are finally gone. I couldn't get the whole clump in the pic so decided this was an accurate pic of PEG.

WESTBOURNE VALENTINE'S DAY - registered as ML and it still has many more buds to go. Big blooms too.

And of course I have to post this one again because it is amazing me on how much bloom it has left and how well it is holding up under all the rain.

I bet the daylilies are really loving the rain. It rained last night here but had stopped long before daybreak. Then it was bright and sunny. Long about mid afternoon it started raining here again and kept going but looks like it might have stopped now. Your blooms look especially good in the rain with the raindrops on the flowers. WESTBOURNE VALENTINE'S DAY is my favorite with JOSHUA SLOCUM as runner up.

I wish rain for all of you who need it. We were desperate as well. The good thing about our rain here is that the drops are rarely ever big or agressive enough to shred the flowers..... the down side however, is that it can rain for hours and accumulation is still minimal. At this point though, I was happy to take what we got! Julie

Great blooms and great clumps! I love the hot ones. I guess they go with the hot weather. It was too hot too even garden here today and I don't mind it warm. MAUNA LOA and ALABAMA JUBILEE are my favorites.

Very Wet Hosta Pics...

We've had much rain all summer, which was a blessing for the hosta. Some were lost due to the wetness, high humidity, and heat too. However, we had no temps over 100 that I know of. Other places were much hotter, even New England. Then, consider that we are more accustomed to having torrential downpours, sometimes as part of our "afternoon thunderstorms." When we have the flash floods, it is usually in areas where they paved too much and the low spots always flood. We are not on mountainous terrain, rather flat country with some hills now and then. And the water over the years has created its own pathways to the river and then the Bay and then the Gulf. I've listened to the news about Boulder, and considered that you are on high ground, Don, but sometimes even high ground can have problems with too much water for storm drains to carry. Kids can get into trouble playing near drainage canals etc. Glad to hear that you are pretty much insulated from this spate of wetness. I always enjoy having the rain, it tends to cool things down and that is good. The banana trees have multiple stalks this year, thriving on the rain. My hosta are happy in the shade of the tropical plants scattered around the garden for their benefit. We've been known to get 15 inches of rain in a 24 hour period, and one such occasion, when I was working locally, I saw the VW bug behind me start floating out of line at the traffic light. The driver jumped out and pushed his car back into line. Totally memorable sight, and funny too. This week we have NO rain. I'm hoping for some this afternoon, so I don't have to water the garden. Your hosta look wonderful, Don. Glad to see the Mr.Watson looking so good, and your Dick Ward....both of those are very strong plants with my favorite coloring and margins. Also my Princess Anastasia looks good, despite signs of something chomping on the leaves a bit. Doesn't seem to phase it though. I'll add a picture later, since I'm typing on my Kindle FIRE and I have no pictures on it yet, but will try to figure out how to tap into the Flickr account for HTML code.

Wouldn't we love to have that rain--the daylilies might put up a rebloom scape or two. Yours are just lovely in the rain. It's always difficult to pic favs, but I do love Joshua Slocum,Orchid Corsage, and Valentine's Day. Avedon

Gollies,I wish some of that rain would come here.My daylilies would be grateful and so would I.Your blooms are gorgeous,and I love them with the rain drops on them.My favorite one is W.VALENTINE'S DAY. The seedling is very pretty, too.

I love photos with raindrops on the flowers, so this is a great post for me. Every time you post Joshua Slocum I have to wonder why I don't have that one yet.

I have Startle. I got it new this year. I had one scape on it with buds and wouldn't ya know it, I broke the scape by accident so I didn't get to see any flowers on it. Yours is beautiful. I also really like the look of Orchid Corsage, very pretty!

Its been really wet here too but i don't have much of anything blooming. Lots of scapes though and GRASS!!!! I like your seedling. For a first year, it's looking good. Startle is my pick of favs...Ellie

The rain is so pretty on the blooms. I would love some of it.

I can see why you love Joshua Slocum. It is a beauty. And Startle is a magnificent one. I really love it, and you had had a great run with it.

Chris: If Joshua S. increases enough next year, I can send you some to try out. It reminds me of SELF DETERMINATION but with a bigger bloom, at least here in my garden.

The sun is shining this morning but more rain is suppose to come this afternoon. In the meantime, hubby and I are building some trelles for my clematis I got this year. We have never done a project like this before so we are learning as we go along. Table saw, routers, drills, which screws to use..... I may become a master carpenter before I become a master gardener ;-).

The flowers always look so pretty with raindrops on them. We were supposed to have a rainy day, but only got a few drops overnight. Not complaining since we've had good rainfall this year and it was a good day for working in the garden.
I can see why you love Joshua Slocum. It's a beauty. I'll have to look tht one up. W. Valentine's day is a gorgeous color and Orchid Corsage is just a super plant. Like your seedling too.
