Sounds like you got a lot done! Does shovel prune mean it just gets dug up and thrown out?
I get really itchy to move things also. I just exchanged out ones that I have very similar of or double clumps of, and I am so excited to rearrange.
I'm forcing myself to keep my hands off of ones that just bloomed this year so I don't delay a good bloom show more by forcing my plants to adjust.

I was just thinking. I need to find three spots to move three daylilies that are in the front yard daylily row because I want to move currently backyard daylilies into daylily row. I have some late bloomers that are in the last row of a backyard bed that are too short for the last row and hard to see. I have tall Judy Davisson late bloomers coming to take their places back there. They would be great in daylily row. I need to move EARLY AND OFTEN (which is reblooming now for the first time ever) and TODD MONROE and LITTLE LEMON DROP. All of these are extra earlies and shorties. I really have to wrack my brain and think of a spot for them.

Cracking- Shovel prune is a term used often on the Roses forums which is were I learned it. It is the term for dig up and move outta the garden. That can mean toss in the trash or recylce. As long as it leaves your garden it is shovel prunned LOL!

well, you have a lot more energy then I have today.This un relenting heat is getting to me this year bad.Day after day with 100 plus temps just is hard to handle.Stay outside for 5 minutes and you are soaked with sweat.at least my head and hair is soaked,Its the only part of me that sweats really bad, is my head.The body very seldom sweats,Its just miserable.

I have moved a few daylilies around, but have to wait for more rain now. We got some rain Saturday night, but not enough to soften the soil deep enough to really dig easily. The temperature here is nice right now, humidity is down, so I've been outside getting several things done, mainly just cleaning up the daylilies & other plants that are looking ratty after the heat. I have a daylily that died from crown rot, another one I'm trying to keep an eye on. It looked fine til I looked at it closely today. Probably should dig it up & see what is going on. I just cannot understand, every year I lose a couple of daylilies to crown rot after they bloom. Last year it was Buttered Popcorn & another one I can't remember right now. This year it was Skipjack. Everything around it looks good, actually better than usual because we've had decent rain this summer. The ones that die always seem to be nice sized, established clumps, often bloom extra well before dying, almost like they put all their energy into blooming. Just bumfuzzles me totally. Sorry, got longwinded!

Why am I not surprised? Of course you are moving plants in wonderful conditions like that. Rearranging is happening here too. It is necessary to "fine-tune" and I plan to do more than I ever have before. At the moment, it is too hot to do much, but I am digging up some more to go to their new home with DD. That will happen wither this week or next week.

If I waited for rain, my daylilies would all be dead. I've had a total of 4 inches since March And I am way ahead of Texas, I know. It rains around me, but I am in a "dry doughnut hole" Of course the tornadoes were all around and missed me too, so I am not fussing. much. The sprinkler is going and will be for several hours today. I can move plants after that. One area is going to have one plant moved this afternoon, but that is all...it was watered yeaterday. I have lost a couple of plants over the years, but usually to da@@@n voles. Today, I noticed that the old leaves had all died on Delayed Arrival, but several new fans are poking their heads up through the dirt, so I guess it will be okay. I am worried one new one though. I intend to pet it.

Jean, I would not be working much in the kind of heat you have either. I hope you get some cooler weather and some rain.

Nancy, I know you like to move daylilies around just like I do. I guess we both are trying to get our gardens "just right" LOL! And no reason for you not to chat on. I certain do chat and chat and chat about what goes on in my garden ha ha :-)

Kay, you know me and know the moving is no surprise. What I have done well at that I just could not seem to make myself do before is the shovel prunning. Prior years I kept everything unless it was such a poor doer in one way or another. This year I am doing far better at emiminating some that just don't please me or never pleased me, some too much look alikes, some I just plain got tired of and some just never managed to look like the hybridizers picture. All outta here.

I am with you on the shovel pruning. Dd is getting Lady Betty Fretz, Old King Cole, Mexican Magic, Dragon's Eye, and several more. They are okay, but not great bloomers. They are outta here!

When I still had room left and could just make another daylily bed, it didn't much matter if I was not so picky. But now I am outta room. It is time for some of these to go. I just shovel prunned two more daylilies this afternoon. At first I thought to move them but later was thinking why bother? Outta here LOL!

I got sidetracked from my daylily moving today (I often do) because I started hacking back some shrubs that grow there along the top of part of the daylily slope by the side of the garden. I hacked those shrubs all way, way back the year I planted on the slope but see today that they are getting out of hand again. So time for the shrub prunning. I don't want the daylilies shaded. I was pleased at the extra amount of sunlight there after I was finished.

There is one spindy shub there at the end I just might totally dig out. Have to look at it all again tomorrow.

I plan on having a 'work day' this weekend if the weather holds as promised. I will pick up the wood for framing the raised bed tonight or tomorrow, already have the dirt at home, just waiting for the 10 day Roundup clearance to end. I am only putting smaller flowers (16-26") up along the front walk in raised beds. Once I move them up to the front, I can plant the new taller ones in the older beds.
I like Todd Monroe and have been trying to decide if it or Siloam Shocker will go. They look too much alike and I have limited room. I think Todd will win as it is a rebloomer. I had a seedling I meant to evict, but forgot to mark which of two plants it was-and I don't want to toss the wrong one, so it may end up there until next year. Other evictions/overgrowns are going out to the holding bed at Dad's for next years spring plant sale-that's where I get my flower money! Once I get that done, I am hoping to have one segment of the back bed cleared so I can add things to the soil as it is full of clay there and the daylilies aren't fond of it. Then in the spring, I can cross things from the other side of the back bed and amend that side of the bed.
Will probably drive husband crazy by then. :)

Lisa, you have quite the project planned. I like TODD MONROE as I have it here but it has never been outstanding in my garden in spite of having a lovely spot front and center. Something else could probably fill up that spot better.

I just dragged myself back in after another day of moving daylilies around with some shovel prunning. I actually managed to shovel prune another four daylilies today. I am on a roll, hee hee hee. That makes some good news as I am actually startiung to see empty spots in the garden. And that makes me very pleased. I also moved four daylilies but I am not done with the moving yet. Still some left to do but at least the shovel prunning is done. No more planned to get outta here (at least for this year).

Raining enough off and on this afternoon that I am not back to my daylily moving projects. I really had hoped to finish before all the nastyness hit this weekend but now it looks like it is not going top be done by then. Oh well, one can only do what one can do.

Looks like I am going to spend Friday and Saturday dragging all the porch and patio furnature into the garage and inside so that it doesn't blow away!
