NBJ reminds me of Bouganvilla - it thrives on neglect . Those cut back take longer to bloom than those left alone . My original plant was cut to almost nothing and is returning with beautiful growth - no flowers yet . Cuttings that are several years old and received no trimming have buds but no open blooms - yet . You may be just far enough north of us that it might take a week or two longer for your plant to set buds . NBJ seem to like plenty of sun and to be in the ground . Cuttings practically root before your eyes . My best performing NBJ is directly under a strong security light that runs all night long . I think that no matter how much or how little you do for this plant , it will survive and do just fine . I recommend planting it in the ground . Then start cuttings and put those in the ground in different places under different conditions . That experiment will tell you more about your own garden and plants than we ever could .

I bought mine earlier in the Spring and it flowered & scented the air for about a week and then nothing...until a month ago when it started producing blooms again. For the last few weeks, the flowers are profuse...and now it's dwindling down again. From what I understand, it should start up again. When I lived in Santa Barbara, the only time I remember NOT smelling it was January-April. I did plant mine in the ground this time...it does enjoy a good soak & fertiler. I just use Miracle Grow - it was after that that I got the punch of blooms & scent. Good luck!

Wantonamara, Very nice! My poor plant has not had a very good plant mom. It has been a hot dry summer and the watering wasn't very regular. It had such long arms, that I had it up on a plant support and it kept getting blown over in the wind. I do have several more cuttings now, LOL. It has bloomed several times, but always at night. I hope that the heavy clay pot stops it from falling. I will have to try the fertilizer once a week. I feed my violet with weak strength every time I water, but never thought of doing that for the cereus. (Yes, I know it is E.... O..... I can spell cereus!) I just got it moved into the greenhouse a couple of days ago. I think I will just leave it there next year and try to shade the greenhouse. It is under trees, so that helps.
