Four Boxes of Daylilies Came Today

I think most of you know that I am really running out of room here. Thats one of the reasons for the big moving projects here, I need to open up some room in that daylily plateau to plant some new stuff.

However, all this did not stop me from buying new plants. Four boxes of daylilies arrived today and I had vague plans to be ready for planting by the first of September, ha ha. Well, they are here now.

I got UPON THIS ROCK from Phil Korth as I was on the waiting list and it was finially available.

I bought two of Charmaine Rich's 2009 intros, THRILLSEEKER and MANDARIN FIRECRACKER. I was hoping she would send me her third 2009 intro, ROOTIN ROOTIN RASPBERRY as a bonus and she did. I am thrilled. Last year i had bought a 2008 intro from her, PROOF POSITIVE. She very generously sent both her other intros, DOC WEBSTER and PROMISE TO BEHAVE as bonus plants. Those two bonus plants turned out to be increable and I knew I had to have more of her intros. If you are looking for gorgeous rock solid northern daylilies, these come from zone 4 VT.

Then my order from Jim and Margo is here. I bought-

I also received the special bonus of HARD TIMES and my requested regular bonus of EARLY ALIBI. The plants are big and there are lots and lots of fans. Hurray!

These three orders came in the mail, which comes late. I already was working on planting the order that came earlier today by UPS, which was my order from Olallie. Now there is a full tub of daylilies soaking and lots to plant when I am not ready for all this. Ack!!! Still, I am very happy with my new plants :-))

Well, I am digging otherthings and trying to plant some of these things. Never rains but pours as they say.

I am so jealous when I read about Black Magic. I tried minimum four specimen if not more planted them in various parts in the garden and non did/does anything for me. What is your secret? I wish you, of course, all the best with your newest Black Magic, and I hope you will post gorgeous photos of it. Meanwhile I am considering to discard my last Black Magic that was grafted on fortunina, which, after 3 or 4 years still is barely 3 and 1/2' tall and has 2 tiny stems - not a rose worth keeping. :-(((

Well, from looking at the date of this post which showed when I first put those daylilies to soak, I certainly did not rush to get them planted :-(( Just got them done today. Its been so rainey that many days when I would have worked in the garden, I just couldn't as it rained or everything was drenched after the rain. Rained last night heavy but cleared up and the sun came out. Figgured we would have a sunny day all day but no. Guess what? Its raining again. I got finished just in time. I put them in the newly made this spring serviceberry garden. Thats the one with daylilies and lily bulbs. They are now all in a row making the outermost, which is first row, in that garden. I think this garden is going to be truely wonderful after it gets established with the combo of daylilies and lily bulbs. It doesn't look bad now but everything needs more growing. I see the mailman brought my very last daylily order which I have been waiting a long time for. Thats Ambrosia Rows from Kathy Lamb, Loon Song Gardens. And those darn tropical Milkweeds I have been waiting two months for are here also on my porch. Better get busy unpacking.

No Daylilies Got Planted Today

I have just dragged myself back inside for the day. I am absolutely shot. Can barely drag myself around. At least it has been a very productive few days and my projects are moving forward. Cindy, I will deffinatly take pictures and post them. I really think (I hope for sure) that those daylilies will hold that slope. I tried to space them really cose for the hill holding effect but still I had to leave some room because I don't want them to grow together. After I finish I plan to put something between the rows also to break up any idea of the rain to wash too much. Either that green edging you get at Home Depot or a row of bricks. Or maybe a combo of the two. I will set the bricks down some and then mulch on top of the entire thing. Will take pictures as I go along. I have thought this entire thing out before I starting anything. Right now the hill will not wash out because the grass is still there between the daylily clumps. I did not remove the grass, simply dug holes thru the grass and planted. I will do the bricks, then cut newspaper, lay on top of grass, then put straw on top of that so that the area between the clumps is heavily mulched. Also wanted to get the roots a chance to start growing. Straw works pretty well on slopes, I use it on sections of Azealea Hill and its pretty darn streep. Almost but not quite as bad as the area I am planting on now. No were near as gentile a slope as on the section in the front yard were I have the zinnias and the daylilies. This is what one has to resort to when one has run out of room.

Moving Those Daylilies Around Again Today

Well, I know I have at least 5 more daylilies to move but I didn't move any today as it is sprinkleing. Not really raining much, just enough to be annoying. Andrea, I guess last year I was done for last year but then this year you know I just have to move some more LOL! Lots of it was due to the ones I moved outta here forever. Then I wanted to move some ones around because that really would be better than just trying to stick something new in each empty spot. Besides sounds as if you did lots and lots of moving around yourself. But don't you just love it after it is all done and you have things arrainged the way you want them? Your projects are going to be stunning when you are done. Maybe while you are planning that hosta and fern bed you might want to add some spring bulbs this fall or next. I bet they would look fabulous along the edge of the woods. CTC- I just go collect bags of leaves left at the curb and I do it in the middle of the day. No sneaking required! As for being busy in the garden, it seems that I am ALWAYS busy doing one project or another. Never ends. But I like to be out there.

I did see Charmaine's Mandarin Firecracker. Gorgeous isn't it? Will wait till winter to make final decisions on what is to come for spring. Only lates I keep telling myself but then again who knows.....I got too much already coming and heck no time to get the new beds ready.

Have fun planting and hopefully your weather has cooled down some.

Its really going to be wonderful next year. I have overdone it with the amount of work all this re-arranging is being done now, but the payoff will be the garden looking like what I want it to look like.

Busy! Busy!It's nice when they come early but 4 boxes? LOL That's a lot of digging.

I finally got my bed finished for my Maryott order that should arrive tomorrow. I haven't seen blooms in so long. I'm hoping they sprinkled lots of their special fairy dust on them. I'd sure like to see some dl blooms in my yard.

Well, you will be extra happy with your Maryotts order. Sounds as if you have been busy yourself, getting a new gardenbed ready for your new additions. As far as not seeing blooms, you need to go for some late and extra late bloomers.

It was four boxes but it wasn't really THAT many daylilies. Just that I was not ready for them and they were from diffent places. Somehow if I don't order too many from one place it seems like I didn't get as much. Until they all start arriving that is and I have to plant them.

juliany-I had found Charmaines website in the winter two years ago as I noticed PROOF POSITIVE. I find it funny that while I think PROOF POSITIVE is a nice daylily, I think the other two are fabulous daylilies. And I never would have bought them just looking at the pictures on her website. I was very lucky that she sent them to me.

You lucky devil, you. To get the bonus plants you wanted... that is awesome. I bet it feels like Christmas for you.

You've definitely got your work cut out for you though. That's a lot of planting.

Jim and Margo are great about bonus plants. Last year I asked for NUCLEAR MELTDOWN as my bonus plant and they sent that as well as another bonus of LOCH NESS MONSTER.

I love it! I know that is what will happen when my orders start coming...it happened last year, why wouldn't it happen this year.

You will get it done, I am sure of that, and just think of the blooms next year!

Thats what I keep telling myself, think of how nice it will be next year when they all bloom. Have to motivate myself in this heat and humidity somehow.

Rita,I hope you are taking a lot of rest breaks,if its very hot there.We don't need you getting sick from working yourself to death in the heat...Gee,I can't hardly wait to see your gardens next year,with all the new blooms.I can't imagine it lookiing better,as its been very beautiful this year.I find myself going back and hunting up some of your previous posts to look at your gardens again.I especially like the front yard with those flower boxes.Its gorgeous.

I might just have to work smarter. I can't manage to work any faster, its just to hot and I am just too old. Oh, to have the strength and energy I did when I was younger!

Your garden was so beautiful this year that I can't imagine what it will look like next year with all your new additions. I am wondering where you are going to fit them all. I'm trying hard to make room in my yard and I don't think I'll have nearly as many to add as you do. I know you'll manage somehow and have an even more gorgeous garden--although that's hard to imagine.

Wait until I get that far as I still have afew straggerers but I will post pictures of the empty plateau bed before I start to replant. A very few of those plants are gone as they were dogs here but almost all moved to the redone areas and the new daylily row but mostly to the area on the slope were there were no daylilies at all before I started.

I always wanted rebloom up there and of course was not going to get it on my southern evergreens. I will be moving things like many of my Emmerich intros up there in order to get rebloom.

There are (were) 4 rows there and since two are totally gone now and the third is mostly gone, I hope to have leftover room even after I put daylilies back in there.
