Same here. I have daylilies planted along the front of my house (behind some smaller bushes - the bushes hide the foliage yet you can see the flowers) and I have daylilies along the back fence in my yard (so the dogs won't walk all over them).

I find that in the front Mary's Gold really stands out:

And in the back, Tom Wise (with it's hot colors) and Atlanta Simplicity (soft yellow, but huge numerous flowers) make you look twice:

How do you like Rocket City? I saw it at a daylily farm last weekend and it really caught my eye.

The brighter colors are beacons in my garden: GRAND OLD FLAG, VERA BIAGLOW, BANDIT MAN, ROCKET CITY, NEWBERRY FRILLY LADY, PRIMAL SCREAM, MAGIC CARPET RIDE and FRANK GLADNEY.

Spellbinder stands out in my garden. This flower is so bright the colour seems to bounce off the petals. SB has also given me some great seedlings.

I'll agree with 'Spellbinder' - in my garden its color is electric, almost shocking. I also have a bright rusty orange unknown that stands out like nothing else in my yard.

My orange unknown, a huge Tet plant (a good 32" tall with a 6" flower), which is sporting a golf-ball-sized pod right now (I crossed it with 'Frozen Jade,' just for fun).

'Indian Ripple' is another attention-getter. I'm sure mine will bloom taller next year, it was new this spring and stayed very short in bloom.

I've got a lot of hot standouts in my back yard: 'Chicago Apache,' 'Mary Todd,' 'Banditman,' 'Spellbinder,' 'Matt,' 'Big Show Off,' 'Golden Chimes,' 'Indian Ripple,' 'Anzac,' and more. My back yard is a real poke in the eye all summer, and I've got some late bloomers just sending up scapes ('Autumn Minaret' and 'Stop Light'). It seems to be easy to find an extended-season assortment of hot colored daylilies, and I realize that I seriously need some LATE COOL colors - my front yard daylilies are kaput for the year, except for 'Ida Miles' still going strong, and I miss them.

The back yard is my main view out my kitchen and dining room windows, the sight I see most often from inside the house. I'm using lots of other perennial and annual fillers for color, too: nasturtiums, zinnias, California poppies, Ratibida (Mexican Coneflower), sunflowers (a dismal failure this year, due to the woodchucks), amaranth, heliopsis, fuchsia 'Gartenmeister Bonstedt,' Shasta daisy 'Becky,' dahlias, and other goodies. In the spring the back yard starts with bright white and yellow daffodils and white and purple crocuses, followed by flaming hot colored tulips, then tall and intermediate bearded irises (blues, and coppers/golds), and even later with white, dark scarlet, and creamy yellow peonies. Just talking about it makes me look forward to the show next year!

Dagmar, Rocket City is my favourite daylily in my garden and if I had more property I would plant even more of it. It's a quick grower, very robust.

Wow, all are gorgeous but I have just one question : Will the real Spellbinder please stand up. Virgo45's Spellbinder doesnt really look like Laurelin's Spellbinder . Both daylilies are gorgeous but one or the other is NOT Spellbinder it seems.

My 'Spellbinder' looks like virgo45's 'Spellbinder' - in person. I'll have to plead inexperience with my new camera, because the color of my plant really IS like virgo45's plant. They just take better pictures than I do!

And, I'm pretty sure now that my big orange unknown Tet is NOT 'Rocket City' - no eye to speak of. Oh well, it's still a keeper for its size, vigor, and bold color. (And, if the huge pod it set is any indication, it's going to be a good pod parent. We'll see what the offspring look like in a couple years. . . .)

Manila Moon[Hardy 1970] is a bright mass of continuous gold bloom that always is an attention getter here. Great performance from an elderly tet....sorry I don't have pics. I concure about Rocket City..shows very well....and I agree with Starstuck....one of my favourites from last year...thanks for all the great pics...I only have a few of them but they are all terrific..cheers, lloyd

You guys, you guys....Julie, you are absolutely right about the pad, pencil, score card ang a padlock on my wallet. But, I think you have given me an idea for adding some punch to my front yard. I redid the front walk and entrance garden last year and have azaleas for color (orange) in the spring but after that it goes a little down hill....I do have a couple of softer yellow daylilies in there and was going to add some Black-eyed Susies (cause I love 'em so and they make you smile) but I can add more saturated yellows, oranges and reds...that might liven things up.....and then you step in the back...and everthing is pinks, blues, purples and white with just a little soft yellow thrown in...complete opposites.

Id have to say- MONA LOA, AND OUTRAGEOUS. I planted Mico this year, have a feeling that it will stand out. Oh yeah, can't forget Persian ruby too. Gosh there are so many bright ones! Love the pictures guys, keep it up!

I have Spellbinder and Rocket City that I bought potted from a local nursery last summer when they started to bloom. Caught my attention right away at the nursery even amoung lots of other blooming daylilies. I kept them around my patio in back where they were always seen until they finished blooming and then I planted them in my front yard, the four clumps in a row. Rocket City in the middle and a Spellbinder at each end.

They are now the backdrop of my newly put in daylily garden in the front yard that I am doing this spring and that a bunch of my Marietta Gardens daylilies were planted in and were most of the ones I ordered from Maryotts will be planted. I think it will look nice.

There are three that come to mind, the kind of flowers that make the person walking down the street come on over and say WOW!

But Bonanza is the most eye-catching one in my garden. I love it.

The color on Kwanza Gold is so intense that it is almost impossible to photograph. This is the best and closest of the hundred or so we took.
