Deanna, I'm not Maryl, but maybe I can provide a few answers. Bud count is per scape--all buds that open on that one scape until the scape is done blooming. When I cut the spent scapes, that's often when I do my counting. It's easy to see the scars from blooms. Branching is a tad trickier. The main scape (that goes to the ground) is not counted. If there is only a top V on the plant, that would count as two branches. If there are more brunches up and down the scape, then those are counted too. I've linked to the AHS site for an example of branching, but I find the example confusing. Reblooming is from new scapes. Some scapes may appear while original scapes are blooming--this causes constant blooming over a long time. Other times, the daylily will quit blooming, then new scapes appear. Well, I was doing bud counts, and the plants kept putting up instant rebloom scapes and doing that bud building thing that I just decided to count scapes instead. I have been blessed with such heavy bloom and for so long a time this year. 14 scapes - Intelligent Life ...it wouldn't surprise me too much if it decided to send up a scape again. 12 scapes - Citrix, Filled to Overflowing, Count it All Joy, Heaven's Edge,Remembering Elizabeth and North Wind Dancer 10 scapes - South Seas, Cinco de Mayo, All American Windmill and Palace Garden Beauty. Citrix started with a pitiful bloom the 2nd of June. Every other bloom on it had been perfect. Today, it squeezed out one last bloom that was not perfect, but it had bloomed for so long, and almost always multiple blooms! Filled to Overflowing started blooming the 4th of June. It still has quite a few blooms to open. I had never had a day lily bloom for such a long period of time before. Three weeks was outstanding. Next year will have to be a let down since this has been such a remarkable year for bloom, instant rebloom, and regular rebloom. kay

I'd say that a minimum should be in the 8-10 range. "Good" would be in the mid-teens or above. Of course, rebloom can make a difference.

Thanks everyone! Towandaaz, that sounds exciting, I think Eden is so beautiful, your moving it must have helped it a lot. Right now my TZ buds blend in with the leaves, I'll wait until some color is showing to post a picture, I would love to see a picture of Eden. Boncrow, sounds wonderful, I ordered Quietness this year, all the others are lovely too, must be a beautiful sight! Ut2nc, some pictures I've seen of Ebb Tide in full bloom are breathtaking. I always look forward to seeing a rose in bloom for the first time too. Jim and Vasue, I hope you both have many buds and blooms soon and I hope everyone posts lots of pictures! Another one I'm excited about is Orchid Romance, it has lots of buds, and has gotten tall, I thought it was going to be small, but is very vigorous and so healthy, third season for it, it really took off last year.
