DustyRose, after posting I remembered seeing a couple with a first name instead of initials. J.C.'s rose was the only one with initials and I saw it in bloom (a beautiful magenta color). Coiner is notorious for these labels--I've seen them marked just "red rose", "yellow rose" and so far I've seen only Coiner roses at HD unlike Lowe's which has roses from V&P Nurseries (Gilbert, AZ), Nakase (Laveen, AZ), Altman's from CA. In fact the major nurseries in Phoenix (Berridge and Baker) didn't carry any J&P roses this year. I was disappointed as I wanted OLOG, Ingrid Bergman, and Veteran's Honor. Lowe's had all three. Anyway, let me know about J.C.'s (how it stands up to heat, does it shatter quickly, etc.) Karen

DinaBear, You may want to take a look at the pictures below. If they do not show up in your email, then go to gardenweb and read the post on the website. They multiply by creating offsets. Simply put, every year the lily creates miniature clones of itself. They develop along the stem. Most lilies grow roots all along the stem from the bulb to the surface of the soil. These roots are the primarily roots responsible for feeding the lily and for hosting the small clones. These small miniatures, also called bulblets, are identicial clones of the mother bulb. Initially, they feed from the nutrients collected by the mother plant and is transport to the bulblets in the feeder roots. This allow the bulblets to grow from a pinhead to a chick pea size in one season. After this year, the bulblets (being attached to the old stem and roots) will send up it's own leaf which in another year will become a thin stem. In a couple of years (2-5 depending on type of lily) it will be a flowering lily. Here are some pictures: Here is a picture of a lily stem pulled from the ground. Note the "swollen part" which is the roots and see the white bulblets which is attached to the stem ? This is an example of a bulblet. This is a fairly small one. Typically they go from this size to 2-3 x that size This is a picture of a lily stem still planted. See the bulblets which have formed at the surface of the soil still attached to the stem ?? Here is an interesting picture. This picture show a stem about to die back (wither and turn yellow). Notice the green leaves at the base ? They are lily bulblets formed last year which has send out a single leaf (cotyledon). This leaf feeds the bulblet which is now idenpendent of the mother bulb. What to expect next ? See this picture: The lilies have created offsets, and they have all started as "a single leaf" as above. Now (a year later) they have turned into small "stems". Next year the smaller stems will be just as tall as the mature lilies and a few even bloom. This lily is a white dwarf Asiatic which multiplies easily. The slugs really gave them a beating last year which is probably why they multiplied so dramatically

Vitex smells like Pepper? The foliage sure doesn't, but that doesn't mean the seeds don't. I've never heard of it being called "Monk's Pepper." That's a new one for me. That's what makes common names so interesting. Now I'm going to have to crush a vitex seed and smell it. I love the smell of pepper. I've heard of a Brazilian Pepper Tree, which is considered a noxious weed in the areas that don't freeze, but I don't know if it looks anything like what you described. Kountry Wood was the "value" offering at a design store here in Mich called the Kitchen Shop-there are a few of their design centers scattered in this area. I thought the product was good -liked the finish. They are Amish made. Because of the presence of a complete design and install center handling them, I know they would work for the price point maybe better than other cheaper cabinet lines where customer service can be a hassle to correct things or tweak something in the plan/etc. Now I have just looked and see that the Kitchen Shop has dropped them and picked up Waypoint and Wolf cabinets-never heard of them. KountryWood is still in operation...looks like they have streamlined their offerings-just maple, oak, and cherry. I believe they had birch and hickory previously. What I notice is some interesting stain options on maple and a white paint....some dark stains for oak. Other cheaper cabinets I don't think would present you with the finish they give you and now stain offerings to boot. Might be good. If you have a design center handling them it might be a good end product for a lower investment in your cabinets while ending up with a good durable product. I felt the door finishes when handling/looking at them were superior to Ikea. But Ikea has certain aspects that make it desirable as well.
