Would you believe.........

.....that I have a scape (the first one) on Siloam Show Girl? I was out edging and cleaning beds this morning, and there it was, big as life! I am shocked...never have I had an established dl bloom this late in the year. SSG was planted in 2005, and has never given me any blooms. I've been seriously thinking about showing her the road...lol....but think I'll give her another year now that she's decided to grace me with a scape. I still can't believe she's scaping this late....wonders never cease in the dl world!! :)

I just noticed I have a scape on Moonlit Masquerade a couple of days ago. Most of my daylilies are eary bloomers so I haven't seen blooms in quite awhile and didn't really expect to see any more this summer. Such a nice surpise!

Hamp, you post the most beautiful pictures. CF is gorgeous, and I am not a gladiolus fan, but that is beautiful. Your picture makes me want to go out into the dark and ask those PdO's how much longer I'm going to have to wait! I love that rose. Clemmie is beautiful, too. Is bush honeysuckle a synonym for deciduous azaleas, or just of that one type? It's a beautiful color, and it does look like a honeysuckle blossom. Is it fragrant? Hey, us zone 4 Iowa folk had a warm spell this week - it got up to 25 degrees with clouds and freezing fog during the day and stayed above 10 degrees with clouds and fog at nite!!!! Yippee Somehow I think everyone in zones 5 and above need to close their eyes and get a visual of a skinny path cut out of 4 foot of "flat" snow (sprinkled with a few 5 foot drifts just for fun--who said Iowa was flat!); carefully carrying milk jugs out the back door and around the house and garage to place them snuggly on snow trampled down to a measily 1 foot height; quickly following the skinny path back to the house so the wind doesn't blow the path shut..... HUM, remind me again about warm spells and seeing green!!!!! LOL

I was not at the auction, but in general these kinds of things seem to go to internet/phone bidders or someone who is clearly representing someone else. So I think a lot of the stratospheric bids come from overseas buyers. I do know someone who is friends with the man who bought the $8M Garvan Carver attributed pie crust table a few years back and he is an American. However, since he didn't want anyone to know he would pay $8M for a table he did it anonymously. I think Rago tends to be pretty accurate with their estimates, so this probably interested a few bidders for whom money is essentially no object. I don't tend to follow the decorative objects market much, however, I was told that it remained stronger than the furniture market, because the decorative arts are more "portable" and more liquid in terms of ease of resale than furniture.

They obviously don't know what they're talking about. They say that electric cooktops produce less vapor and smoke than gas cooktops. While gas cooktops generate more heat, the amount of vapor and smoke depends on WHAT you're cooking, not the fuel source.

Oooo.... Ooooo.... Ooooo..... I want to see pictures when they bloom! The rest of us are out of blooms! Although we have gotten some cooling rains the last three days and I have to say that everything is perking up... I guess you never know.....

Hey Jan...I got a little rain yesterday and a little more today. Such a big help. I have a few dls that are scaping. I feel I got cheated this summer so will take all the blooms I can get. I'll post pics when they bloom. I may have an open one tomorrow....Ellie

fairysoapgirl...I will certainly make photos of it when it blooms. Gotta have proof....LOL

Ellie...so glad you're getting a bit of rain up your way, and I know what you mean. Lots of my dl's just didn't bloom or dropped their buds, etc. due to the drought this season.
Please share your photos when you get blooms, too.

Jan - Enjly your blooms on that Siloam! Here's a bloom I got Thursday on DIAMONDS IN THE SKY, a daylily that was new in the spring. This is its first bloom and the last of the year. It originally had about 7 buds, but the 100+ temps caused bud drop.

And here's a pretty one to add to the list....Bill Norris bloomed day before yesterday, but I got home too late to get a pic. Yesterday, it bloomed again so I ran for the camera. What a beautiful sight upon entering the field garden! -- Nancy

Jan, glad you didn;t throw Siloam Show Girl away. She managed to bloom here this July with no water. Definitely a keeper. Ida

Jan, how's your scape coming? The only ones blooming in my yard right now are Gentle Shepherd, Ribbonette and Stella.

Ahhh.... that's better... FLOWERS! Although, Stella is STILL blooming her little heart out in my yard (142 days and counting). Even getting more doubles!

Beautiful Ida....I'm glad I kept her too....I'd never throw her away, but if she and certain others don't show me something better next season...they'll be in the "For Sale" bed!!!! LOL
Kathy, it's a ways from blooming, but looking good, and it's raining as I'm typing so I have high hopes that the blooms will be nice ones. :)

I had two nice flowers on a rebloom scape of FIRST KNIGHT today. They attracted lots of attention from butterflies and other flies. There are a lot of edged cream yellows out there, but this older one is really outstanding. It's had two sets of rebloom so far.

Hey Jan, reckon SSG could read your mind and thought to herself... If I don't bloom I'm history. Better start sending up something before she (Jan) jerks me up and plants something else in my spot.
