Tomato diseases and reusing pots

Each year when I pot up my tomatoes, I get new 5 gallon buckets to do so, hoping this will reduce my problems with diseases. I do hate the waste of tossing the old buckets, though. The buckets are filled with new potting mix and have holes drilled about 5" from the base to provide drainage but allow a reservoir. Each year I am disappointed when the various diseases and viruses move in. I am wondering - is it OK to reuse the pots after cleaning them (?with bleach?) and then concentrate more effort on controlling the white flies? Are they the real culprits?

If it makes a difference, I am located in Fort Myers near the river.

Thanks for any help and suggestions
