I noticed last week that my Roebellini (Pygmy date) palm was not looking too great. I applied some granular specialized palm fertilizer with appropriate N-P-K ratio, which also contains manganese and magnesium.
Upon further research, it has the classic symptoms of "frizzle top", which indicates Magnesium deficiency. (For those needing more info, please see the link.) http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/EP267.
I applied the palm fertilizer pretty thickly. What do you think about my applying additional manganese? What about additional magnesium? Is the best source of magnesium Epsom salts? I'm concerned about the salt content of the Epsom salts.
I have a sandy soil, most of the yard has relatively neutral ph (can't find my meter to test the area around the palm, it's near the front of the house.) We're 3 miles from the ocean and live in Central Florida.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks much,
Lynne
