Help , need help finding florida town

Dear Florida gardeners , Im looking for a small town that may be spelled like this :

SORPTIARTE .

ITS SUPPOSE TO BE ABOUT 2 HOURS FROM ORLANDO.

This is driving me crazy because I dont know what city its near and I have to be there friday . Ive lived all over Florida when I was younger but never heard of this place. Thanks for helping me if you can. Im suppose to pick up a rare plant.

It doesn't sound familiar... do you have a zip code? Area code? Can you ask the people you will be visiting to send you Mapquest directions?

Robbie, I'm about 2 hours south of Orlando and the only towns I've ever heard of that sound close to that name are "South Port"...which I'm not sure if it's within the geographical distance. Also, the town just south of me is called Port St Lucie, which some people also call South Port. Could either be the town you're trying to find?

I would find a budget way to do a fence. You can almost certainly do it for what you're planning to spend on plants, and its advantages outweigh plants by a huge margin. A planter box would be no cheaper either. The plan of using plants has so many disadvantages that, until you'd said why you weren't considering a fence, there was just nothing to say about a way to do it well. A fence takes no space. Works for the purposes you intend. Has immediate effectiveness, and year-round effectiveness. Is no work to maintain. Can still have plants, which are easy to install after a fence is in, while a fence is harder to build once plants are in place. You can even do the fence in phases. Not that the plants won't be a phased approach too! But your fence can be effective while you phase it in. Seek out lumber in creative ways: craigslist free listings is a favourite. Cruise industrial alleys for pallets. But here's the thing: the bones of a fence need only be posts, and a few rails, which to start with could be just 1x2s or whatever you can locate. If you get the dog later, then you can invest in 2x4 rails and pickets, or panels. I think it would be a good investment to put in new posts; I don't think this would much exceed the cost of the plants you've proposed. Maybe a post hole digger would even be a good investment and affordable; I got one for only $70. If you ultimately want a tall fence, use tall posts (set the correct distance apart) - your fence can be short to start with. KarinL

This issue has been discussed on this forum quite a lot. Perhaps doing a Search will bring up some of the past discussions. While I am not in Florida, if I may make a suggestion - if you call the local exterminators/bee keepers in your area, they probably can give you all of the information you need that pertains to your particular area. Personally, I doubt anyone could ever bring a law suit - unless the problem became acute - after all, bees are everywhere. The only thing - however, is that raising bees in large quantities in heavily populated areas - would in my opinion, be inconsiderate. Just my 2 c's. Bejay

Another option, hit walmart and look for those "water globes". They're blown glass balls with a long spiked spout sticking out. You fill them with water and stick the spiked opening into the dirt. The wet dirt at the opening keeps the water from pouring out all at once, and as it starts to dry out, more water drips down into the pot. In my experience, they're good for 2, maybe 3 day's worth of constant drip watering before they have to be refilled. Another option, you can get a bag of water retention crystals (also from walmart) that soak up water then slowly release it over time. Mix some of that in with your soil and give it a good soak, and they'll be good for quite a while as well.

I thought of Sorrento, too...seems way off, but that's the only thing I could think of with "sor" at the beginning. Hope you find out what it is, Robbie. We don't seem to be much help, I'm afraid. If you DO find out, let us know. I'm curious!

Tony_k_orlando , Manature 9B Sanford , you all are awesome and I appreciate your reply so much and if I find that place I will let you know. I think Sorrento is not it. Something tells me it could be in the Belle Glade region , gosh I hope not.

Curiosity got the better of me, did you finally figure out where this town is in FLorida. I researched the heck out of it and I can't come up with a town spelled that way or remotely close to that anywhere??

Very curiuos to find out where this town or what the real name of this town is...

I don't recognize either place, sorry :( I searched under a couple of alternate spellings of both words but nothing.

Pinellas, St Petersburg maybe? It's about 2 hrs from Orlando

If the letter's handwritten, people educated in Latin countries write differently from those educated in the States. Apparent letter connections may not be what they seem. Just a thought!

Fun to google-search for this, but I hit dead ends.

Sorptarte maybe "Sarasota"?

"Palamos" has house rentals near Disney... didn't see any for Sarasota.

Hope we find out eventually the answer to this puzzle!

I've been thinking they meant "south" somewhere. But can't find Sorptarte, South Orparte, South Tarte, etc.

Could it Palmetto, south of Tampa? There are alot of nurseries owned and run by Hispanics in this area.

Now, I'm interested....Good guess on Palmetto. Is there a South Port? I know there's a North Port. Hopefully, this mystery will soon be solved.
