Hey Rita! Perfect Perennials As promised(pics)

Today I made my annual pilgrimage to Perfect Perennials, Dianne and Stu Kendig's Nursery.

Their Gardens were gorgeous as always and I bought loads of goodies.

So here are a few pics of the gardens and some of Stu's babies from his seedling bed.

This is Dianne in front of their sales area.

This is a shot looking over one bed towards the pond and far Border. The border is full of Dwarf conifers ,daylilies, hosta and other perennials.

Oh my, my. Its absolutely beautiful there. I can't immagine how she can manage to mantain all that property and those display beds. Those beds in the second and third pictures especially are so beautiful. Nice doggies also.

In case anyone wants to know, this is the place that sent me the catalog that has no pictures, only descriptions, that sells the Dale Thomas intros that I bought sight unseen this spring. Diane told me that she had not seen the 2009 Thomas intros bloom yet either so we were both looking forward to seeing them blom.

Thank you so much for posting pics of your tour. You must tell us what you brought home!

I got Ashcombes pink Delight, Ashcombe Enchanting Delight, Watermelon Luminosity, all are Kendig intros. I also got a Dale Thomas intro called Miss Kitty.
Then I picked up Siamese Royalty, White Tuxedo, Velvet Shadows, Siloam Doodlebug, Green Flash, and 2 New Echinacea.
I saw A ton more that I want but I had already broke the budget with these.

I'll try to post some pics of Thomas intros tommorow night. I haven't gotten them labeled yet.

The wood is just decoration and doesn't stop the grass. I respectfully disagree, based on many years of experience in different states, with different grasses. When I lived in OH, I had "nice" grass, non-rhizomatous, mostly, like it looks like bgaviator has. Bricks or timbers laying on the ground will stop about 95% of the grass permanently, especially when the bed is well mulched such as this. Wherever there's a low spot, or seam between pieces, the grass may creep under/through. Easy to fix in a few minutes about every-other month. As the timber settles, it will sink a bit and then it's even less of a problem, something to check maybe once in the spring, once in the fall. Even here, with a yard of St. Augustine or Bermuda or whatever type of vine-grass this is in my yard in AL, with Bahia invading that, something like this timber is enough of a barrier to easily achieve control. Agree it's not a type of border that is completely certain, but certainly worth doing, especially compared to the effort and expense required for a completely reliable border. I prefer this type of border because it's easy to pick up the timber and definitely remove any invading grass by the roots. I spend very little time on out-of-bounds grass. Often grass is let to make seeds before it's mowed, then not enough care is taken to direct the outflow away from the bed, or it drops in the bed before mowing. When the seeds sprout, the border gets blamed for not doing its' job.

Hello everybody. Have been enjoying my visit with all of you this evening -- even though you didn't know I was there :-) Dizzy, don't think we've met (my loss) because I only joined a few months ago, but congratulations on your baby -- such a blessing. She's going to be a beauty, for sure. You will post pictures, right? We're finally getting spring here, and you're getting colder there. I, too, really enjoy sharing. Chaz mentioned epiphyllum, which I also have, and one is just starting to bloom. Had for a couple years and fertilized heavily last summer. Here's a not-so-great picture of it. Flower is about three inches across. Have to warn you, though, it does get quite large. Would be good for you folks who live where it's warm. It does like being outside. Do have others I can probably get a few pieces from, but not currently in bloom, so don't know which is which because they're unfortunately not labeled. People have just given me cuttings, and I stick them in a hanging pot and keep them watered. The parent of this red one originated in Berlin. Yes, it went through WWII.

Awesome new pics and updates everyone! I'm glad lots of folks got some good, soaking rains too. Last Thursday afternoon I was caught in the heaviest downpour I've ever seen here in over 12 years. Amazing! Tons of rain water in my rain barrel right now, and it only collects from about 20% of the roof surface! Mary, you should definitely get some rain lilies, they're just so easy and they absolutely do not need to be on life support (automatic irrigation)! Just plant them, water them once every ten days or so when they seem active, and forget them. They're great, and so easy! Congrats on your pumpkin bloom, Xica, so nice! Keep us posted! Thanks for the nice comments on my little blog, it's a fun little outlet for me. Oh, you can plant those desert bluebells (Phacelia campanularia) any time, but when I am introducing them into a garden for the first time I wait until November to sprinkle them around the garden. They'll pop up in late winter and bloom in spring. Once you let some go to seed, you'll never need to plant them again, LOL. Awesome pics and plants as always, dlg421! I love your garden! Great that it got a nice rain too. I noticed a few mushrooms popping up in my garden too, LOL. Fun! Okay, it's September now, so I'll see everyone in the September thread! Thanks guys! Kristy, that's a good idea. I had tried to use my kids' laptops to get on, but the ports are missing. 3 laptops, and not one of them could get on either. ugh. Gonna have to get somekinda back-up..my comp has crashed on me several times already today. Completely shuts down and restarts on it's own. Lotsa error reports. I wonder if the main problem is Windows XP? Gonna have to maybe uninstall and re-install it. But I don't have the WinXP software to manually download it, and I am scared that if I uninstall it I won't be able to get online to reinstall it. Maybe the comp guy can do it for me. I'll have to give him a call..I just feel bad about bothering him cuz he spent so much time on my comp already, and did alot more than he had to, and he didn't charge us since he's my son's friend's dad. I don't want him to feel like I am taking advantage. what to do, what to do.

What a lovely garden. Looked it up on the web they also have a very nice website not to mention beautiful daylilies. Those garden dogs are shelties we happen to be very partial to shelties as we have one.

Just love that second picture. Would love to plop a chair down in that garden and sit and take in that lovely view for a while. Thanks for sharing your pics.

I am always in awe of gardens with sweeping vistas and long shot views. Probably because everything is squished in here LOL. My idea of a long shot view in my own garden is shooting from accross the driveway to the other side. Not exactly the same things as these panoramic shots.
