Something old, something new....

Alright. This is first attempt at posting pictures. I came back from the fourth celebration to find some new ones open (new for me!). I just recently caught the daylily bug, so many of my cultivars are just local favorites.

Mary Todd? This was the only daylily that came with the house. I almost chucked it when I was working up the gardens, but it has been nothing but a work horse!

Why you have some lovely blooms indeed. SA bloom doesn't have to be the very latest thing out to be a thing of beauty.

I love Howard Goodson...it is a very rich dark red. Destined to see is always lovely and your photo is very clear and very good. (All of your photos are excellent). I think all American Tiger is my favorite, but I always love to see Primal Scream.

It is great to have a new person posting pretties. Welcome to the forum.

You have a really nice batch of bloom. I love Invictus and I always like Primal Scream. I grow that myself. Your yellow looks like it can be Mary Todd or Buttered Popcorn.

I received the most wonderful box of plants from Vina today:) Something old: Egyptian walking onion, Iris Dusky Challenger, and Iris Quaker Lady (one of the oldest of her awesome collection of Iris), Daylily strawberry candy, and one of her favorites - Yarrow - Cherries Jubilee. Wow! There's more.... Something new (to me): Coneflower Ruby Giant Something special: for my memory garden for my sister from Vina's memory garden - Sib Iris - Shaker's prayer and Daylily - Siloam Angels voice and a sweet hummingbird on a bloom. We learned two things. 1) We're just not a turkey family. I did a spiral-sliced ham. I just love ham, and DH loves the split-pea soup that will be on the table tomorrow. One son also loves ham. I especially like that it's just more of a reheat deal - no worrying that it will be ready earlier or later than planned. 2) I made roasted potatoes with roasted garlic from a Pioneer Woman recipe. Quartered new red potatoes on a baking sheet interspersed with 6 (yes, 6) heads of garlic with tops lopped off, all drizzled with olive oil along with some salt and pepper. After everything is done, we squeezed the ooey gooey garlicyness around the pan, mixed it up with the potatoes, and wowza! That will be a repeat and not just for holidays. PW's recipe additionally calls for half a cup of white wine to be poured over, but we don't drink white wine and could not justify opening a bottle for half a cup. While I'm sure it's wonderful, I didn't feel that I was missing anything. While there are some traditional things that do reappear each year, I love that our holiday meals evolve, just as we do. I took some pics today since some new things had opened. Queen of Sweden - A really terrific rose; healthy, beautiful flowers and blue/green foliage, floriferous, vigorous, nice fruity myrrh fragrance, etc. These only came from Chamblee's last spring! Pearl d'Or Charles de Mills Belle Isis more Marianne Susan Williams-Ellis - great rose, deserves more attention And Marie Pavie - Also received only last year from Chamblee's. (there's a "naughty" fact about this statute). Because there's a section of the statue that's shiny and without the patina of tarnish that covers the rest of it, I'll guess that rubbing that spot where it's shiny for that reason is thought to give good luck or have some other alleged consequence. (Probably an unintended typo but a statute is another word for a law section) Edit for PS, many males (especially young adults and younger) would see that practice not as being naughty but rather as being opportunistic.
