Pool Screen Enclosure Garden

Hi there!

I am new to gardening, other than what I used to garden as a child in Oregon. We have recently put in a pool with an oversized deck surround. It is southern facing and gets sun exposure all day. My question is, what types of vegetables and or herbs would I be able to plant successfully in this screened in enclosure? I know that I won't have insects to pollinate but I don't know how difficult that would be for me to simulate. We have a pond and then a nature preserve in our backyard, so it's filled with deer, rabbits, gators, snakes, frogs, etc... That's the reason that I would rather not plant them outside. Not to mention, a neighbor has had several issues with critters getting into his outside garden.

Any help and or advice on which plants would work well would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I looked it up, and I am considered zone 9a, if that helps.

Thanks in advance!!
