Lemon Juice in Tomato Sauce

Ok, so I didn't forget the lemon juice! What happened was this: I made my tomato sauce and it was SOOO sour. My sister called it wince-worthy. I added sugar and some dry spices. When it came to adding the lemon juice, I did not want to make a sour-sore-sauce so I only put in about 3/4 the amount of bottled lemon juice. Just want to make sure I did the right thing? I used the water boiling method for this.

Measurements: The recipe called for 1 Tbsp for 1 pint jars. I did 1/2 pint jars so I assume I was to put in 1/2 Tbsp. So I did almost a full 1/2 Tbsp measuring spoon.
